March 13, 1951 Murray J. Toussie Patented Mar. 13, 1951 UNITED A'lENT cr tics,
Thi invention relates tobaby pants of the type generally disclosed in the U. 8. Patent to Marjorie A. Potwin, No. 1,931,357, October 17, 1933, wherein an elongated body'- is adaptedto be folded substantially along its transverse center line to provide front and back members, and wherein said body comprises an outer sheet of textile fabric and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexible waterproof material.
Th primary object of the present invention is to provide a garment of the above kind with novel and efficient means for removably retaining an absorbent pad therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment of the above kind having a back member of novel and improved construction to permit lateral expansion thereof at the top.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment of the above kind in which means is provided for securing the front and back members together at their upper corners in a single position, in which means is provided to permit lateral expansion of the back member at the top, and in which means is provided for securing the front and back members together above and near the leg openings in any one of at least two positions to adjust the size of said leg openings.
The exact nature of the present invention will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection wtih the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a garment constructed in accordance with the present invention substantially as it appears in use, except that one side edge portion of the back member is left unfolded and unsecured to the adjacent side edge portion of the front member.
Figure 2 is an inside plan view of the garment in unfolded condition, partly broken away and in section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal section taken on theline 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 taken on the line c t of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the present garment consists of anelongated body 5 adapted to be folded substantially along its transverse center line i to provide front and back members I and 8, respectively. The upper portion of the back member is wider than the upper portion of the front member and is adapted to have itsside edge portions 9 folded upon and secured to the side edge portions it of the front member.
The side edges of the lower portions of the front and back members are curved inwardly as at H pose.
2 Claims. (Cl. 128287) toform legopenings when theside edge portions 9 and Hi are secured together.
The back member has a hem [2 along its upper edge, and an elastic strap- 13 is disposed in said hem-and hasits ends secured: to the back member at points l4 between the longitudinal center and the side edges of the back member to provide the latter with folds l5 and permit lateral expansion thereof at th top. Means is provided for securing the front and back members together at their upper corners in a single position, such as oooperating snap fastener members l6 and i1. Means is also provided for securing said front and back members together above and near the leg openings in any of at least two positions to adjust the size of said leg openings, such as single snap fastener members l8 carried by the back member and pairs of snap fastener members [9 adapted to coact with said fastener members 18 and carried by the front member 1.
Thebody 5 comprises an outer sheet oftextile fabric 20, and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexible waterproof material 2|, said sheets being of similar configuration and stitched together along their edges as at 22.
Thebody 5 is provided withinside pockets 23 and 24 at the upper ends of the front and back members, respectively, which pockets open toward each other for removable reception of the ends of an elongated absorbent pad, such as a folded diaper indicated by dotted lines at 25 in Figure 2. These pockets are of such depth as to leave the major intermediate portion of the pad exposed between the pockets for an obvious pur- Thepocket 23 of the front member is formed by stitching apocket member 25 to the inside of said front member along their edges as at 21, said pocket member comprising anouter textile sheet 28, and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexiblewaterproof material 29. The pocket of the back member is formed by stitching apocket member 30 to the inside and centrally between the sides of said back member, said pocket member comprising an outer textile sheet 3 I, and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexiblewaterproof material 32 which is extended beyond the 7 free edge of said textile sheet 3! and folded upon itself as at 33 to minimize transmission of moisture to the textile sheet 3! and provide a pocket of efficient depth.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the nature and advantages of the present invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art.
What is claimed as new is:
1. Baby pants comprising a moisture-proof body portion having its opposite side edges curved inwardly and also having end portions to embrace the body of a wearer, the inwardly curved side edges defining leg openings when the body portion is folded on a medial transverse line, pockets at the upper ends of said end portions which open toward each other and are adapted for removable reception of the ends of an elongated absorbent pad placed on the inside of the pants, the pocket of the end portion at the back of the wearer comprising a pocket member stitched to the inside of said end portion centrally between the sides thereof, said pocket member comprising an outer textile sheet and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexible waterproof material extended beyond the free edge of said textile sheet and folded upon itself.
2. Baby pants comprising a moisture-proof body portion comprising an outer sheet of textile fabric and an inner sheet of thin flexible waterproof material, said body portion having its opposite edges curved inwardly and also having end portions to embrace the body of a wearer, the
4 inwardly curved side edges defining leg openings when the body portion is folded on a medial transverse line, pockets at the upper ends of said end portions which open toward each other and are adapted for removable reception of the ends of an elongated absorbent pad placed on the inside of the pants, the pocket of the end portion at the back of the wearer comprising a pocket member stitched to the inside of said end portion centrally between the sides thereof, said pocket member comprising an outer textile sheet and an inner or lining sheet of thin flexible waterproof material.
