The present application is a'refiie 'sof my abandoned' application filed :on April 21,; 1941; Serial More speeificallygthe invention proposes the construction of a campingkitLcharacteriZed by a box-shaped body having a" plurality oi partitions dividing off compartments therein-and a cover for'closing said body in a manner to isolate each of the compartments.
Still further it is" proposed to characterize the cover We top compartment having rad'o-whward- 1y extending skirt Wall portion provided'W-ith a novel means arranged in :a manner to: retain-t 1e cover in position upon the b'ox1ike*b'ody.
Still'further his proposed to providethe skirt wall portions of thecov'erwith pivctally mounted flaps engage'able-with complementarylat'ches mounted on" op'posit'e sides of the. bodyto hold the cover in' position.
A further object'ot the' inventionx is :theprovision of openings in the flaps engageable with spring pressed complementary members --m-unt edon the body 'for securing the flaps .in'fiposition and arranged in a mannenso-"thatra-inail 'or similar object may be passed through the openings in one of the flaps for 'supporting-thepover in a position to expose'a mirror mountedon the inside face thereof.
A further object of: this invention'proposes the provision of a means forpermitting -thewover to befi'xedly locked in position of the boxlike container with its top Wall spaced from; the :open top of the contain'er'to varying degrees to permit articles to be positioned Within this space:
For further comprehension 'of' the: invention, and ofthe objects and advantages thereof, reference willbe had to the following-description and accompanying drawing, and? to "the'invention as m'ore 'particularly' set forth;
In the accompanying drawing forming: a niaterial part ofthis disclosure:

According: to the In"o'dii-icatir'in of the" invention shown in Figs". 4to '7 theconstruetion' of the camping-kit is 'sim'ilar'to that previously described and is characterized by a box shaped' body 'l fl closed by means of 'a cover "IZ'" having atopWall portion 13 and a de'epdepen'ding skirt wall portion I4 Flaps I5 'are-pivotally-fmounted on thebottom edges'of the depending kirt' wall portions l4 and each is provided with anextendable bottom section 25. Each ofthe-fi'apsilyfurther has a topi'section "zfi which is pivotally attached to-the bottom edge of the skirt wall portion Id. The bottom end of thetop section 26 is slidably extended into a hollow 21 projected inwards from the top of the bottom section-"25. -A latch is mounted on the body l and is characterized by a projectingresilient stud 20 engageable with a complementary-opening 2| formed in thebottom ection 25 for holding the flap l5 in a position in which the cover I2 will be in upon the box shaped body [0; V V l A means is provided for latching th extendeable bottom section 25 of the flap l5 in various a position extended positions relative to the top section 26] 1 for holding the cover l2 in a position in which its top wall portion l3'will be supported to varying degrees above the open top of the box shaped I body to provide an auxiliary space within which a towel or similar object may be carried.
This means is characterized by a pivotally mountedlever 28 mounted upon apintle 29 with; in thebottom section 25. Thislever 28 ispro vided with apluralityof rack teeth 30 engageable With complementary rack teeth 3li0rmed on one edge of acutout 32 formed in thetop section 25. When the resilient stud '20 is passed through the opening. 2litwill contactthe lever '25 and pivot it towards the rack'teeth 3| to en:
gageitsrack teeth 30 therewith. Aspring 33 is provided fordrawingthe lever 28 into a position 4 in which the teeth are disengaged, as shown in on said cover and formed with an extendable hollow bottom section formed with an opening overlying a portion of an adjacent wall of said body,
a projecting stud on said adjadent...w.all and en-: 'gageable through said" opening, means in. said bottom section operated by the engagement of said stud into said Opening for locking aid bottom section into a vfixed position on said flap, comprising a lever pivotally mounted within said 1 bottom section, teeth formed on said lever and engageable with complementary teeth formed on an adjacent'portion of said flap to prevent outward movement of said bottom sectionon said flap, resilient means normally urging said lever r to overlap a portion of said opening to beengaged by said stud when passed intosaid opening to move said lever to engage said teeth, and limiting means'limiting the movement of said leverto a d d position partially overlapping said opening or. toposition in which said teeth are engaged. v
3. In a camping kit having a box shaped body and a cover for said body and formed with a skirt wall, a flap pivotally mounted at its .top end on said cover and formed with an extendable hol low bottom section formed with an opening overs lyinga portion of an adjacent wall of said body,
a projecting stud on said adjacent wall and en-;
Fig; 6,-when theresilient stud 20 is withdrawn from the opening 2 l -A pin 34 projects from the interior of the bottom section and engages a slot 35for limiting the pivoting of thelever 28 to itsoperative and inoperative positions. The
7slot 35 is arcuately shaped and is arranged concentrically-with thepin 29.
Means i provided for preventing thebottom 7section 25 from being completely disen aged from the bottom end of thetop section 26. This means V --comprisespins 36 extending from thetop section 26 and passing through elongated slots3'l formed in the sides of the bottom section.25. In other respects this form of th invention is similar to" the previous form.
It is to be understood that this kit may be used? for camping, or other purpose and be made of 1 metal, composition or any other suitablematerial' with a plurality of partitions. The size and pro portion of the box Ill and cover ,I I, also of-the helps I (imay be changed as desired.
'While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that'I do not limit myself to themecise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reservedto all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thu describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: 1. In a camping kit having a box and a cover for said body and formed with a skirt wall, a' flap pivotally mounted at its top end on said cover and formed with an extendable hollow bottom section formed with an opening'overlying 1 a portion of an adjacent wall of said body, a projecting stud '011 said adjacent wall and engageable through said opening, means in said bottom sec tion operatedby the engagement of said stud'into said opening for locking said bottom section into a fixed position on said flap.
2. In a camping kit'hav'ingTa box shapedbody 7 and a cover for said body and formed with a skirt wall, a flap pivotally mounted at its top end gageable through said opening, means; in said bottom section operated by the engagement of move said lever to engage said teeth, and limit- I 1 ing means limiting the movement of said lever to a position partially overlapping said opening or to position in which said teeth are engaged, said resilient means, comprising a contraction spring operating between said lever and a fixed portion of said bottom section.
4. In a camping kit having a box shaped bodyj and a cover for saidbody and formed with a skirt wall, a flap'pivotally mounted at it top end on said cover and formed with an extendable hollow bottom sectionformed with an opening overlying a portion of an adjacent-wall of said shaped body body, a projecting stud on said adjacent wall and engageable throughsaid opening, means in said 1 bottom section operated by the engagement 'of said stud into said opening for locking said bottom section into a fixed postion on said flap, comprising a lever pivotally mounted within saidbottomsection, teeth formed on said leverand on gageable with complementary teeth formed on an adjacent portion'of said flap to. prevent out; ward movement of .said bottom section on said...
flap, resilient means'normally urging said lever to overlap a portion of said opening to be engaged by said stud when passed into said opening to move said lever to engage said teeth, and'limiting means limiting the movementof said lever to a position partially overlapping said opening or to position in which saidjteeth are engaged, said limiting means, comprising a'pin from said hot- I tom section engaging into an elongated v slot formed in the free end of said lever andextended parallel to the path transversed by said free end.
