This invention relates generally to containers or boxes of the type which are customarily furnished with watches, articlesV of jewelry andthe like, inwhich such articlesA may be deposited when notl in use and is more particularly directed to a container or box formed to functionv as aprote'ctive receptacle for a Wrist watch and its attachingr band or bracelet; when the watch is not being worn, which isalso adapted for conversion to serve as a rack for displaying the Watch for merchandising or other purposes.

The principal object of this invention is to elim- 'l inate the necessity for separate dsplayracks or stands in merchandising watches and other items of the kind, in the sale of which protective receptacles or so-called cases are customarily furnished, while at the same time providing for the display orexhibition oi such items in an attractive zand sales-promoting manner. y

More speciiically, it is an important object of thisinvention to provide a, container or protective case Yfor a wrist Watch and its attaching band, in which the watch and itsband may bey deposited whenV not in use, which is readily convertible into a display rack or stand for merchandising or other exhibition of the watch.

lt is also an object of this-inventionfto provide a eombinationwatoh case or protective enclosure and display stand, as aforesaid-which may be economically produced from a single blank of material to form the cooperating base, side walls and top of the oase, these components being capable of association in another relationship in the alternative functioning of the case for display purposes, the case embodying a receptacle fora watch and wrist band, which'is shiftable from a position within the case to an external position, when conversion of the case for display purposes is effected.

Other obiectsl and advantages flowing from the practicing of my invention will For the purposes of this disclosure I have elected to show a preferred embodiment of my invention in the accompanying drawing, which is designed for protectively enclosing and displaying a` Wrist watch and the attaching bracelet associated therewith. However, my invention may take other forms and be used for enclosing and displayingcther articles, as pieces of jewelry and the iire, as will be obvious from `the detailed descrip-V tion thereof.

Referring now toy the .drawing in detail, in which like characters oi reference indicate similar parts in the several views, the case or container,V which, as shown,`is designed for the reception of a Wrist watch and its Wrist embracing band, is of an elongated rectangular shape to receive the watch positioned centrally of thel ends thereof, with the wrist band disposed in flattened conditionen either side thereof.

The casewhich may be made of any suitable material, as fibre board or the like, covered in simulation of leather or other material Vand appropriately lined, is of a unitary construction, embodying a base section and laterally projectingflaps 8 and 9 foldable upwardly to form the sides `of the case and inwardly to overlie said base section, the length of the two flaps being coextensive with that of the base sectiorn superimposed upon the base sectionl is an inner basemember I0 of a relativelyrigid construction which is formed forthe reception of a wrist Watch and attached wrist band, collectively indicated at w, with the watch located centrally of the ends of said member, the sections of the Wrist band being arranged on either side thereof, in open or a substantially flattened condition.

To provide for the reception of the Watch and wrist band, as just described, the inner base mem- Vber IQ embodies an elongated recess of a width approximately `the same as that of the standard Wrist band, the Central portion of the recess being enlarged to form a locating seat for the Watch. In the present showing, the Watch and wrist band receiving recess in the inner base member, is formed by the parallel ribs I3 and I4 superim- Y posed upon said member and extending from end l to end thereof along'its sides, the opposed inner surfaces of saidribs, intermediate their respecf 1 "tive ends, being out back in oppositely disposed curved lines, to provide the aforesaid watch locating seat indicated at l2, the parallel surfaces of said ribs dening the pocket H for the Wrist band of the watch.

Pieces of material, as cardboard, indicated at I6 and l1, superimposed upon the ribs I3 and I4 and spanning the pocket l I are folded down upon the outside surfaces and ends of said ribs and Oemented thereto, to form end walls for said inner base member, the ends of the wrist band being insertable beneath these pieces i6 and l1, when the disconnected band sections are arranged within the pocket Il, on either side of the watch located on the seat l2, as shown in Figure 3.

To protectivelyenclose the watch, the oppositely projectingflaps 8 and 9 are folded thereover to form the sides of the case, along thehinge lines 8a and 9a and again along the hinge-forminglines 8b and 9b, the latter folds disposing the ,free ends of the respective flaps parallel to said base section l, with the free end 3c of the flap 8 overlapping the free wider portion of theflap 9, the interengagement of the cooperating snap fastener elements i8 and i9, completing the enclosure, as shown in Figure 1. As will be observed, the spacing between theparallel hinge lines 8a and 8b is greater than that between the hinge line 9a and 9b, the opposite Walls @d and 9d of the closed case, as deiinedthereby, being unequal in height to afford sulcient clearance between the face of a watch superimposed upon the seat l2 and the undersurface of the closure formed by the engaged free ends of theaps 8 and 9 and to permit of the flap sections between said hinge lines to function in the alternative use of said case as a display rack, as hereinafter described.

When it is desired to employ the case or container in the display or exhibition of the watch and wrist embracing band, the disconnectedfree ends 8c and gc of theiiaps 8 and 9 are reversed upon their respective hinge lines 3a and 9a, to locate them beneath the base section 1, with the free end 3c of the ilap E superimposed upon the inner surface of the free wider end so of thenap 9, the two ldap ends being then connected-in their inverted positions,` by the opposed snap fastener elements I8 and 5S. The opposite directional reversal of` the positions ofV theV respective iiaps 8 and reiativeiy to the innersurface of the base section .and the inner base member i@ carried thereon, shifts'said base section to topmost position and exposes the inner base member lirfor unobstructedobservation, the latter member, with the base section, being disposed in a plane inclined from the vertical, by virtue of the differential in the height of 'the wall portions of the flaps, as dened by the hinge lines Se, Sb and Sie, Sb, as heretofore pointed out, it being apparent that the matedfree ends 8c and Sic of the flaps and 9 are adapted to function as the base or support of the display rack that is provided in the reversal of said flaps in the manner just described.

By disposing the inner base member at an angle, it will be obvious that the Watch and wrist band arranged thereon, will be adequately supported against dislodgment by the cooperating seat and pocket, at an anglewhich will be most effective in their display or exhibition, the general decorative appeal of the ensemble being en,- hanced by a plush covering with which the inner base member iii and the end pieces t6 and il' may be faced and the rolled Vfrontal edge effect that obtains in the reversal of the Vwall-forming portion Sd of theflap 9.

While I have described my invention with reference to a combination case and display rack designed for a wrist `watch'and wrist bandit will be obvio-us that myinvention may employed to equal advantage in the use and merchandisingof other articles of utility and adornment, such variations in dimensions of the container and in the conguration of the inner base member I0, as may be necessary, coming Within the spirit and scope of my invention, as defined by the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A case formed of a single blank of material folded along four lines to provide a base section, side Walls and a closure adapted to overlie the base, the closurev being formed by overlapped portions of the blank, fastening means for connecting the overlapped portions in closure-forming position and an inner base member fixed to the inner surface of said base section and formed for the reception of the article to be deposited in said case, said side and closure-forming portions of said blank being reversible relatively to said base section along the lines of said folds to dispose said closure-forming portions beneath said base sectionv for interconnection by said fastening means, said base being shifted for support by said side walls, said inner base member being shifted thereby to a topmost exposed position, for the display of an article superimposed thereon.

A case formed of a single blank of material, folded along parallel longitudinal lines, to define a base section, side Walls and a closure adapted to overlie the base section, the closure being formed by overlapped portions of the blank, fastening means carried by said overlapped portions for securing them in closure-forming position and an inner base member fixed to the inner surface of said base section and shaped for the reception of an article to be deposited in said case, said side and closure-forming portions of said blank being reversible relatively to said base sectiony along the lines of said folds to dispose said closure-forming portions beneath said base section for interconnection by said fastening means and to dispose said side Walls to support said base section, whereby said inner base member is Vmaintainedin an exposed topmost position,rfor the disp-lay vof an article superimposed thereon.

3. A combination case and display rack, cornprising a single blank of material, folded along parallel longitudinal lines, to define an elongated base section, side walls of different heights and a closure adapted to overlie saidbase section, the closure being formed by overlapping the free ends of the blank, fastening means carried by the overlapping free ends ofY the blank for securing themin closure-forming position and an inner base member fixed to the inner surface of said base Vsection and conformed for the reception of an article to be deposited in said case, said side and closure-forming portions of said blank being adapted to be folded in reverse directions relativelyto said base section, to dispose said closure-forming portions beneath said base section for interconnection by said fastening means, to support said inner base member fixed to said base section inan exposed topmost position, for the display of an article superimposed thereon, the wall portions defined by adjacent fold lines imparting a downward inclination of said exposed inner base member from one of said wall portions to the other thereof. l

4. A'combination case and display rack for protectively enclosing a wrist Watch and associated Wrist band, supporting such watch and wrist band in an exposed position for exhibition, comprising an elongated base section, side-forming members hinged thereto and sections hinged to said side-forming members adapted to be disposed in overlapping engagement substantially parallel to said base section to form a closure for the case, fastening means carried by said overlapping sections to connect them Vin closurefcrming position, and an inner base member carried by said base section, said inner base member embodying a seat for said watch and adepres- Y sion on either side thereof for the reception of and wrist band in engagement with said seat and depression respectively.

5. A combination case and display rack for Y protectively enclosing a Wrist watch and associated wrist band or supporting such watch and wrist band in an exposed position for exhibition, comprising an elongated base section, side-forming portions hinged thereto, said side-forming portions being of diierent heights, and sections Aen hinged to said side-forming portions adapted to be superimposed one upon the other in spaced relation to said base section to form a closure for said case, fastening means carried by said closure-forming sections to connect them in closure-forming position, and an inner base member carried by said base section embodying a centrally located watch seat and a groove extending frorn either side thereof toward the respective ends of said inner base member for the reception of the wrist band of a watch disposed on said seat, said side-forming portions being adapted to be reversed on their hinge lines to assume a position below said base section, said closure-forming sections being oppositely reversible along their hingeconnections with said side portions to dispose said closure-forming sections beneath said base section in overlapped engagement for the interengagement of said fastening means, whereby said closure-forming sections Will function as the supporting base of the display rack, said inner base member being supported therefrom in a topmost exposed position for the exhibition of a watch and wrist band associated therewith, said side-forming portions cooperating With-said closure-forming sections to support saidrinner base member in a transversely inclined plane.
