'I'his invention relates to garments of the type snown as panties and has for an object .to provide a simple and durable garment of this type in which front and rear panels are so constructed as to produce concealed pockets for the reception of the front and rear ends of a sanitary napkin which latter may be alternately secured in place by a concealed elastic band or by tabs and safety pins disposed in the open ends of the pockets.

A further object is to provide apparatus of this character which will be formed of a few strong. simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.

'I'he overlapped portions of the time! and lower inner layers I1 and Il are doubled back and stitched upon themselves to form respectivehems 2I yand 22. An elastic band 22 is disposed be'- tween the hems 2I and 22 and is stitched at bothl ends by the above-mentioned-lines of stitching 2l.. A tab 2l isinterposed between both hems 2.I and 22 and is stitched at the upper end to the upper inner layer above the hem 2| by a line of departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the crotch portion of the garment shown in Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a detail perspective view drawn to large scale showing one of the pockets.

Figure 4 is a plan view of one of the leg portion panels of the garment.

Figure 5 is a plan view of the outside layer of the front center panel of the garment.

Figure 6 is a plan view of the outside layer of the rear center panel.

Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, III designates the leg portions of the garment formedfrom respective substantially trapezoid shaped blanks II of fabric as shown in Figure 4. In carrying out the invention the garment is provided with central front and rear panels I2 d I3 which are respectively of the general sha shown in Figures 5 and 6 and are each formed of a double thickness of material. The front and rear center panels are stitched to the leg panels III as shown at I4 and at the top. The leg panels are provided with a hem I5 in which 'is disposedelastic bands 8 and 9 leaving the front and rear panels free and obviating the possibility of puckers or wrinkles.

Referring more specifically to the construction of the center panels and especially to the construction of one of these panels, it will be stitching 25. 'I'he tab extends below the hem 2|.

As best shown in Figures 5 and 6; the lower ends of the layers forming the front and rear panels I2 Vand I3 are curved upwardly as shown respectively at 26 and 21. The purpose of this is to form anarched crotch seam 28 when these curved lower ends are sewed together.

The ends of a sanitary napkin 29, shown diagrammatically in Figure 2 may be inserted in the concealed pockets 9' and secured to the upper layer .I'I forming the pocket by inserting the ends underneath the elastic band 22 or by securing the ends to thetabs 24 by safety pins.

From the above description it will be seen that thepockets 8 are concealed-and it will be pointed out that the upper pocket of the frontpanel is preferably disposed higher on the front panel than is the pocket on the rear panelvto promote comfort and more secure protection for the wearer.

From the above description it is thought that the construction and operationof the invention gill be fully understood Without further explana- What is claimed is:

1. In a trunk garment, leg portions having waist band. full length front and rear pa els interposed between the said leg portions, each of said panels being attached at its upper end to the said waist band and consisting of an inner and outer layer of material, the respectivevlayers of the said panels having the lower edges thereof connected to each other to form a crotch line, the side edges of the panels extending rectilinearly from the crotch line to the waist band and being connected to the leg portions of the garment and the inner layer of each panel-having transverse slits arranged in proximity to the said crotch line toreceive 'the ends of a sanitary napkin extendpanels and the napkin in snug tting conformity with the bodyfthe arrangement being such that the waist band will act uniformly on both layers of the panels to hold the same tautly stretched whereby to prevent the formation of folds or Wrinkles therein.-

2. In an article of manufacture having a waist band, the improvement comprising front and rear panels depending from the waist band and each consisting of an inner andouter layer of material, the respective layers of the said panels having the lower edges thereof connectedto each .other to form a crotch line, the side edges of the panels extending rectilinearly from the crotch line to the waist band and the inner layer of each panel having transverse slits-arranged in proximity to the said crotch line for receiving the ends of a sanitary'napkinextending between the slits and resting' on the said inner layers of the panels. the connecting ends of both the inner and outer layers being arcuately curved to providea concave crotch whereby substantially the entire crotch portion of the panels will be transversely arched to hold the material of the panels and the napkin in snug tting conformity with the body, the arrangement being such that the waist band will act uniformly on both layers of the panels to hold the same tautly stretched whereby to prevent the formation of folds or wrinkles therein.
