More particularly the invention relates to a in the nature of a shield for use in hair drying.
One important object of the invention is to provide a novel device to be worn when a person's being subject to a stream of hot air for the device being constructed to protect the face, brow, ears and neck from direct conta thereby preventing the discomfort due to the hot air contacting sensitive portions of the skin.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a novel device for the aforesaid purpose so formed and shaped as to expose all of the hair to the action of the hot air while properly protecting those parts of the head free from invention is to kind described a low cost from air.
A third important object of the provide a novel device of the which may be manufactured at pliable paper-like material.-
' provide a A fourth important object of the invention is ,to provide a novel device of this class so formed and constructed as to be readily fitted on any ordinary size of head. i
A fifth important object of the invention is to provide a novel device of the kind above set forth wherein the device is arranged to be secured in head fitting position by one or more ordinary paper clips.
A slxth'important object of the invention is to novel device of this character formed of paper-like material substantially impervious to moisture andheat.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be presently understood, the invention consists in general of certain novel combinations of elements and'arrangements of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly polnted out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying of reference indicate like parts in the several views, andf V Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device in use. I
Fig. '2 is a plan view of the device before being shaped to fit a persons head.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 2-43 of Fig. 2.
* Fig.4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig.5 is a detail showing a slight modification of the device.' 1 a In the embodiment ct by the hot air stream,
drawing like characters of the invention as here shown there'is provided a' main or body portion of generally arcuate form and having a forward segment l0 provided with a segmento-circular outer edge II and a segmento-circular inner edge l2 concentric with the edge II. This portion III has an arcuate extend of approximately 180 so that it forrns'a semicircular annular part having parallel edges. Extending from each end of the part I0 is a rear portion I! having an outer edge I of segmento-circular form and forming a concentric extension of the edge ll. Each edge portion H has an arcuate extent of slightly less than 90. Each rear portion l3 has an inner edge sinuously curved to provide a convex edge part l5 merging at its forward end into the respective end of intermediate edge portion merging at its forward end smoothly rear end and a concave rear edge portion i'l merging smoothly at its forward end into the rear end of the respective intermediate edge I. The portions l1 are concentric with the edge por-, tions H and I4 and are thus parallel with the rear portions of the edges M. The rear ends of the rear portions of the edges I4 and II are joined by rear end edges it slightly spaced from each other. The edge portions H, I4, I and I8 are all preferably beaded over as at I! to reinforce and slightly stiffen these edges. Those parts of the body portion l3 bounded by the convex edges l5 form ear tabs 20 and the parallel sided rear ends between the edges l1 and the rear parts of the edges l4 form adjusting and securing tails 2|.
In connection with this body abrow section 22 having anupper edge 22 and a parallellower edge 24, these edges being substantially straight in the blank from which the brow section is formed. 'Theupper edge 23 curves downward at its ends to- 'formend edges 25 meeting the extremities of the bottom edge. Theedges 23 and 25 are preferably beaded over as at 26 to reinforce and stiffen these parts and the bottom edge 2l is provided with aflange part 21. Thisbrow section 22 is curved to conform to the edge l2 a 'd is of equal length therewith. In curving thesection 22 theflange 21 may be slit at intervals to permit such curvature if the materlal will not stretch .sufiiciently to allow the flange to curve. Thebrow section 22 has itsflange 21 secured fixedly to the body by any sultable means such as a waterproof and heatproof adhesive such as dextrine or a rubber cement.
' In applying the device the brow section is placed on the forehead with theedge 22 just bescope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is: l. A shield for hair drying comprising an arcu wardly from said tails and body portion.
2. A shield for hair drying comprising an armately annular sheet of having concentric inner and 4. A shield for hair edges of the ear, and" means securing the blank infencircling head.
for detachably relation to the head of the wearer.
6. A shield for hair wardly and upwardly when the blank is positioned around the head of the wearer.
