1 Claim.

My invention relates to new and improved bathing suit trunks.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide new and improved bathing suit trunks.

Another object of my invention is to provide new and improved girdle belt or fastening means at the waist portion of the trunks.

Another object of my invention is to provide a bathing suit garment, such as trunks, with a waist portion having an ornamental appearance.

Another object of my invention is to provide a girdle belt construction whereby the girdle belt is partially concealed by the garment, and the ends of the belt form an ornamental loop at the rear of the garment.

Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment thereof, it being understood that the above statements of the objects of my invention are intended to generally explain the same without limiting it in any manner.

The invention is shown as applied to the trunks of a bathing suit but it can also be applied to a one-piece bathing suit if desired.

The garment has leg portions I and 2 of any suitable construction.

As shown in detail in Fig. 3, the front wall of the waist portion of the garment is provided with two equal and relatively largeconcave portions 3 and 4, and an intermediate and relatively smallconcave portion 5. The center of theconcave portion 5 is aligned with the central vertical aXis of the garment.

The front wall of the garment is likewise provided with twoconvex portions 6 and 1. The front wall of the garment is inturned at its upper edge and said inturned upper edge is connected to the front wall of the garment by means of lines of stitches 9 and 9a. Said stitches 9 and 9a are connected by stitch loops L at the rear surface of the front wall of the garment.

This type of stitch can be generally used for forming the seams of the garment, if desired.

As shown in detail in Figs. 4 and 5, the rear wall of the garment is also provided with an inturned edge portion H, which provides a hem H, said hem being confined substantially to the rear wall of the garment. A part of said hem is continued into the front wall of the garment up to the points l2 and I l.

The rear edge portion H is connected to the rear wall of the garment by means of stitches i5 and lea and these stitches i5 and a are connected at the inner surface of the rear wall of the garment by stitch loops L.

The front wall of the garment is also provided with an inturned edge tab T and this tab is suitably secured by stitches to the inner surface of the front wall of the garment. This tab holds a ring R in position' In this embodiment, the belt member B is shown in the form of a cord having a circular cross section but said belt member B may have any desired shape. Said belt member B is passed through the hem H, and the ends of said belt member are then passed through the ring R. One branch of the belt member B is then passed to and around one side of the garment and the other branch of belt member B is passed to and around the other side of the garment.

The ends of the belt member are then passed through loops I8 which are provided at the rear wall of the garment, and the ends of the belt are then tied so as to form a loop, or said ends can be secured in any suitable manner. The belt member B is preferably made of non-elastic material but it may be made of elastic material, if desired.

The pull of the belt is therefore taken up by the ring R, which can be made of metal, celluloid or any other suitable rigid material.

While I have shown the hem as substantially confined to the rear wall of the garment, the end portions of said hem may extend for any desired length in the front wall of the garment.

The member R may have any desired shape, and it may be generally designated as guide means. likewise, while I have shown a hem for 45 confining the belt within the rear wall of the garment, I may utilize loops or any suitable means for this purpose.

Likewise, while I have shown a single ring R at the front wall of the device, the invention is not 50 necessarily limited to a single ring or guide means, and any suitable guide means may be provided for this purpose.

I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes 55 and omissions can be made Without departing from its spirit.

I claim: Bathing suit trunks'having a rear Wall and a 5 front wall, said rear wall having guide means for holding a girdle belt slidably connected thereto, the front wall of the garment having a single rigid guide member connected thereto at its median line and projecting above the top of said front Wall, said rigid guide member being connected only to the top portion of said front wall, a girdle belt passing through said guide means and having its ends passing slidably through said guide member, the ends of said belt being continued in opposite directions from the guide member to the rear of the trunks and being connected at the rear of the trunks.
