Still further the invention proposes the construction of a garment pocket which is characterized by a front layer of material attached along continuous lines to a rear layer of material forming a pocket, and arranged with an opening in the front layer for forming the mouth'of the pocket, and an intermediate layer of material attached at its edges to the front material at one side of said mouth opening and also forming 'a pocket, and the front material being formed with a second opening constituting'the' mouth for the second pocket.

A still further object of the invention is the construction of another pocket upon the intermediate layer arranged with strips on the opposed sides of the mouth opening thereof adapted to interlock on laterial movements so that one hand must be placed in each of the two pockets, previously mentioned, for the opening and closing of the'said pocket.

In Fig. 1 a Windbreaker I0 is illustrated formed with pockets I i constructed according to this invention. Each of these pockets has a pair of pocket sections as hereinafter fully described in detail.

4 t In Figs. 2-2 inclusive a detail of one of the pockets II is shown. The pocket comprises afront layer of material l2. attached along a continuous line l3, l3", l3= and l3 to a rear layer of material I forming a pocket IS. The front layer i2 is formed with a pocket opening it which is normally closed with a flap H. An intermediate layer of material It! is attached at its edges to the front material l2 at one side, namely beneath said pocket opening I6 and forms a second pocket i9. This latter-mentioned pocket is formed with a pocket opening 20 in the front material i2.

The front layer of material l2 illustrated on I the drawing consists of an upper section l2 secured together by stitches l3 with a lower section l2.

The continuous line l3, l3", l3 and I3 comprises lines of stitches at right angles to each other dividing off a rectangular area. The line of stitches l3 serves to secure the upper edge of the flap l1 together with the upper edge of the material of the front layer l2 at the pocket opening l6, and the upper edge of the rear layer It. The lines of stitches I3 and |3 serve to attach the sides of the rear layer It and the intermediate layer It together with the front layer l2. A double line of stitches l3 extends between the lines of stitches l3" and it! merely for decorative purposes to give the finished jacket the appearance that the pockets ii are of the samewidth as the flaps I].

The jacket I0 is also equipped with alining 22. This lining is secured along one side 22' to aflange 23 extended along one edge of the front opening of the jacket.Hook fasteners 24 are secured upon the edge of the jacket between thelining 22 and a bent edge of the front material I2. This line of hook fasteners is adapted to engage with a complementary line on the opposed edge .of the front opening of the jacket (not shown on the drawing) by which the front of the jacket may be opened and closed.

Themouthopening 20 is finished by a pair ofopposed strips 25 attached upon the opposed sides of the mouth opening on the inner faces thereof. These reinforcement strips may be made of leather piping or any suitable fabric. Ashielding strip 26 is secured on the intermediate layer I8 immediately behind the mouth opening 22 so as to shield and reinforce the intermediate layer l8 at the area oi the mouth opening 20 to prevent rapid wearing out of the intermediate layer at this area. The rear layer it is composed of an upper section l4! and a lower section ll secured together at the Junction Ila The lower end of the material oi the lower section is bent upwards and forms a lower section II of the intermediate section ll. This bent up end of the intermediate layer connects at the Junction I I with a top section l8. This arrangement is such that when the lower section of the pocket It becomes torn, the section composed of the parts ll and It, may be readily removed and replaced. The lower edge oi the pocket I! ,is reinforced with a line of stitches 21. The stitches I!" pass through the front layer ii, the flap l1 and the layer Il The flap II consists oi outer .material l1- andining material 11 secured together along the dges bystitches 28. The flap I1 is termed with a buttonhole opening 29 engageable with abutton 30 attached upon the outer side of the front material it.

In Figs. 5 and 6 a modification of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the previous form merely in the construction 01' the intermediate layer of material it. More particularly, a third pocket 30' is mounted on this layer and is openable and ciosable in a particular manner. More specifically, the intermediate layer I0 is formed with a pocket opening having strips ii and 32 secured upon the opposed sides thereof. These strips haveinter-engageable elements 33 adapted to connect. with each other upon lateral motion.Tongues 33 project from the strip 3| and are adapted to be laterally placed into receiving recesses formed in the side of thestrip 32. Apocket panel 34 is attached at its topedge 34' upon the strip 3i and is secured at the remaining-three sides bystitches 35 to the material of the intermediate layer I 8'.

In order to open and close the mouth of the pocket 30- it is necessary that one hand be en-. gaged in the pocket II. and the other hand be engaged in the pocket It, and then the strips Ii and 32 be moved laterally relative to each other, either to open or close the pocket, depending merely on I the direction or the motion of these strips.

When moved together, the-pocket is closed. In other respects this form or the invention is identical to the previous form and the identical parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment 01 my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope oi. the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-

In a pocket construction for garments, a rear layer oi material having its top edge attached to the inner face of the garment material, an intermediate layer of material having its sides and bottom coinciding with the sides and bottom ofthe rear layer and being attached thereto, the top edge oi the intermediate layer being below the top edge of the rear layer and forming an opening, a strip of reinforcing material attached to THEODORE S. TWOROGER.
