Abstract

Techniques for updating a user interface on a computer system are described. In an example, the computer system detects a gaze position on the user interface. The user interface includes a first open window and a second open window. The first open window is in a foreground of the user interface. The second open window is in a background of the user interface. The computer system determines a region of the user interface around the gaze position. The computer system also displays a viewer based on the region. The viewer is displayed in the foreground of the user interface and shows a screenshot of at least a portion of the second open window.

Description

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A method for updating a user interface on a computer system, the method comprising:
detecting, by the computer system, a gaze position on the user interface, the user interface including a first open window and a second open window, the first open window being in a foreground of the user interface, the second open window being in a background of the user interface;
determining, by the computer system, a region of the user interface around the gaze position; and
displaying, by the computer system, a viewer based on the region, the viewer displayed in the foreground of the user interface and showing a screenshot of at least a portion of the second open window.
2. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the viewer is positioned over the region of the user interface and occludes a portion of the first open window in the foreground of the user interface, wherein the occluded portion is within the region.
3. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the viewer is displayed in the region of the user interface, and further comprising:
detecting, by the computer system, an updated gaze position on the user interface;
determining, by the computer system, that the updated gaze position is within the region; and
maintaining, by the computer system, the displaying of the viewer in the region based on the determining that the updated gaze position is within the region.
4. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the viewer is displayed in the region of the user interface, and further comprising:
detecting, by the computer system, an updated gaze position on the user interface;
determining, by the computer system, that the updated gaze position is outside the region;
determining, by the computer system, an updated region of the user interface around the updated gaze position; and
displaying, by the computer system, the viewer in the updated region.
5. The method ofclaim 4, wherein a first portion of the second open window is in the region of the user interface, wherein a second portion of the second open window is in the updated region of the user interface, and wherein:
when the viewer is displayed in the region, the viewer shows the first portion of the second open window, and
when the viewer is displayed in the updated region, the viewer shows the second portion of the second open window.
6. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
receiving, by the computer system, user input while the gaze position is within the region, the user input indicating a scroll through portions of the second open window; and
updating, by the computer system, the viewer from showing a first portion of the second open window to showing a second portion of the second open window based on the user input.
7. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
receiving, by the computer system, user input indicating an adjustment to at least one of a size or a shape of the viewer; and
updating, by the computer system, at least one of the size or the shape of the viewer based on the adjustment, wherein the updated viewer shows an updated portion of the second open window.
8. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
receiving, by the computer system, user input indicating a warping operation applicable to the second open window; and
updating, by the computer system, the viewer from showing a portion of the second open window to showing a larger portion of the second open window.
9. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the viewer and the region of the user interface are centered around the gaze position, and further comprising:
detecting, by the computer system, an updated gaze position on the user interface;
determining, by the computer system, that the updated gaze position is proximate to an edge of the user interface; and
determining, by the computer system, an updated region of the user interface, wherein the updated region is no longer centered around the gaze position and has at least one of a same shape or a same size as the region of the user interface; and
displaying, by the computer system, the viewer in the updated region, wherein the viewer is centered around the updated region.
10. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the viewer and the region of the user interface are centered around the gaze position, and further comprising:
detecting, by the computer system, an updated gaze position on the user interface;
determining, by the computer system, that the updated gaze position crossed a perimeter of the region; and
displaying, by the computer system, an updated viewer simultaneously with the displaying of the viewer, the updated viewer and the viewer displayed as having an overlapping portion, and the updated viewer displayed with a different transparency than the viewer.
11. A system comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions that, upon execution by the one or more processors, cause the system to:
receive first user input selecting the data from a source;
detect a first gaze position on a user interface;
present a user interface (UI) object on the user interface at the first gaze position, the UI object indicating that the data was selected;
determine a second gaze position on a destination;
present the UI object over the destination at the second gaze position;
receive second user input to place the data; and
place the data in the destination based on the UI object being presented over the destination.
12. The system ofclaim 11, wherein the data comprises one or more files, wherein the source comprises a first folder that includes the one or more files, wherein the first user input requests the one or more files to be copied, wherein the destination comprises a second folder, and wherein the second user input requests the one or more files to be pasted to the second folder.
13. The system ofclaim 11, wherein the first folder is presented in a first open window on a user interface, wherein the second folder is presented in a second open window on the user interface, wherein the first open window is in a foreground of the user interface, wherein the second open window is in a background of the user interface, wherein presenting the UI object over the destination comprises presenting the UI object on the user interface over the second open window while the second open window is in the background of the user interface, and wherein placing the data in the destination comprises copying the one or more files to the second folder while the second open window is in the background of the user interface.
14. The system ofclaim 13, wherein placing the data in the destination comprises copying the one or more files to the second folder, and wherein the execution of the instructions further cause the system to:
show a total number of the selected one or more files in the UI object while the UI object is positioned over the first folder at the first gaze position.
15. The system ofclaim 14, wherein the execution of the instructions further cause the system to:
show a progress of the copying in the UI object while the UI object is positioned over the second folder at the second gaze position.
16. The system ofclaim 14, wherein the execution of the instructions further cause the system to:
receive additional user input after receiving the first user input and before receiving the second user input, the additional user input requesting information about the one or more selected files;
update the UI object to have a different shape; and
show details about the one or more files in the updated UI object.
17. The system ofclaim 12, further comprises a first computing device and a second computing device, wherein the first folder is on the first computing device, and wherein the second folder is on the second computing device, and wherein placing the data in the destination comprises copying the one or more files from the first folder on the first computing device to the second folder on the second computing device.
