Abstract

A set of conditional rewards are associated with a consumer. Thereafter, notice of a reward is given for each of the consumer's transactions upon one of the consumer's accounts that satisfies one of the conditional rewards in the set. The set may be selected by the consumer, or by the issuer such as when the issuer uses a transaction history of purchases made on the consumer's account to determine the set of conditional rewards that would match a past purchasing trend of the consumer. A Globally Unique Identifier, unique within a plurality of transaction processing systems, can be associated with the consumer and used to match the transactions to a corresponding conditional reward.

Description

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A method, comprising:
changing, by a computing apparatus, an association of a globally unique identifier from a first account category of a first account associated with a first portable consumer device of a consumer to a second account category of a second account associated with a second portable consumer device of the consumer;
sending, by the computing apparatus, information associated with a set of conditional rewards to a communication device associated with the consumer based on changing the association of the globally unique identifier from the first account category of the first account of the consumer to the second account category of the second account of the consumer, wherein the set of conditional rewards is associated with the second account category and each conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards represents a value to be credited to the second account of the consumer based on satisfaction of a condition associated with a future purchase transaction between the consumer and a merchant;
receiving, by the computing apparatus, transaction information associated with a purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device, wherein the transaction information includes a globally unique identifier;
determining, by the computing apparatus, that the purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device satisfies a conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards using the globally unique identifier included in the transaction information;
activating, by the computing apparatus, a processing function associated with the conditional reward, the processing function comprises a function to invoke a predetermined computing operation associated with the conditional reward; and
activating, by the computing apparatus, the second account of the consumer associated with the second portable consumer device and inactivating the first account of the consumer associated with the first portable consumer device after the purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device, wherein the second account of the consumer associated with the second portable consumer device is valid for purchase transactions conducted using the second portable consumer device based on:
the computing apparatus activating the second account associated with the second portable consumer device of the consumer, and
the computing apparatus inactivating the first account associated with the first portable consumer device of the consumer.
2. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
setting a trigger to override processing of a conditional reward for a purchase transaction at a level of processing according to a bank identification number (BIN) to processing a conditional reward for a purchase transaction at a level of processing based on the set of conditional rewards; and
overriding processing of the conditional reward for the purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device at the level of processing according to the BIN based on the trigger.
3. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the set of conditional rewards are derived based on a frequency of past purchase transactions involving the first account of the consumer within a time period for a type of inventory from the merchant.
4. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
receiving a selection of a second conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards from the communications device associated with the consumer, wherein thereafter each purchase transaction with transaction information comprising the globally unique identifier that matches the globally unique identifier the globally unique identifier associated with the first account identifier of the first account associated with the first portable consumer device of the consumer results in awarding the second conditional reward to the second account of the consumer.
5. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the globally unique identifier is derived from a predetermined algorithm.
6. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the first portable consumer device stores information from which the globally unique identifier can be derived.
7. The method ofclaim 1, wherein determining that the purchase transaction satisfies the conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards comprises:
determining that the globally unique identifier included in the transaction information matches the globally unique identifier associated with the set of conditional rewards, the second account of the consumer, and the second account category of the second account; and
determining that the globally unique identifier included in the transaction information matches the globally unique identifier associated with the first account identifier of the first account associated with the first portable consumer device of the consumer.
8. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising receiving a fee corresponding to a notification to the consumer of an occurrence of the purchase transaction.
9. The method ofclaim 8, wherein the notification includes instructions for redemption of the conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards.
10. The method ofclaim 1, wherein one or more conditional rewards of the set of conditional rewards are derived from a frequency of past purchase transactions conducted by the consumer during a time period.
11. The method ofclaim 10, further comprising determining a change in the frequency of past purchase transactions conducted by the consumer during the time period and a corresponding change in the one or more of the conditional rewards based on the set of conditional rewards.
12. The method ofclaim 1, wherein changing the association of the globally unique identifier comprises:
storing an association between the globally unique identifier, a set of conditional rewards, the second account of the consumer, and the second account category of the second account; and
storing an association between the globally unique identifier and a first account identifier of the first account associated with the first portable consumer device.
13. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising sending a notice to the consumer including a description of a conditional reward in the set of conditional rewards.
14. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the second account category belongs to a category of portable consumer device accounts issued to consumers by an issuer.
15. A system, comprising:
a computing apparatus programmed or configured to:
change an association of a globally unique identifier from a first account category of a first account associated with a first portable consumer device of a consumer to a second account category of a second account associated with a second portable consumer device of the consumer, wherein, when changing the association of the globally unique identifier, the computing apparatus is programmed or configured to:
store an association between the globally unique identifier, a set of conditional rewards, the second account of the consumer, and the second account category of the second account,
store an association between the globally unique identifier and a first account identifier of the first account associated with the first portable consumer device, and
wherein the set of conditional rewards is associated with the second account category and each conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards represents a value to be credited to the second account of the consumer based on satisfaction of a condition associated with a future purchase transaction between the consumer and a merchant;
send information associated with the set of conditional rewards to a communication device associated with the consumer based on changing the association of the globally unique identifier from the first account category of the first account of the consumer to the second account category of the second account of the consumer;
receive transaction information associated with a purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device, wherein the transaction information includes a globally unique identifier;
determine that the purchase transaction between the consumer and the merchant conducted using the first portable consumer device satisfies a conditional reward of the set of conditional rewards using the globally unique identifier included in the transaction information,
activate a processing function associated with the conditional reward, the processing function comprises a function to invoke a predetermined computing operation associated with the conditional reward;
