Abstract

Methods, apparatuses, and/or systems are provided for enabling a time-shifted, on-demand social network for watching, creating, and/or sharing time-shifted annotation datasets (e.g., commentary tracks) synced to any on-demand programming, and for presenting content items, annotations (e.g., comments) associated with the content items, or related items.

Description

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A method of providing a dataset of annotations associated with a content item, the method being implemented by a computer system that includes one or more physical processors executing one or more computer program instructions which, when executed, perform the method, the method comprising:
storing, by the computer system, annotations received from a first source during a first presentation of a first content item such that the annotations are stored in association with information indicating the first source, the first content item, and reference times corresponding to portions of the first content item;
identifying, by the computer system, a first annotation of the stored annotations for inclusion in a first dataset;
generating, by the computer system, the first dataset such that the first dataset enables access to the first annotation and information indicating the first source, the first content item, and a first reference time for the first annotation that corresponds to a first portion of the first content item; and
providing, by the computer system, the first dataset to enable the first annotation to be presented at a time corresponding to the first portion of the first content item during a presentation of the first content item.
2. The method ofclaim 1, wherein the first presentation of the first content item is provided via a first content delivery service, the method further comprising:
storing, by the computer system, a second annotation received from the first source during a second presentation of the first content item via a second content delivery service such that the second annotation is stored in association with information indicating the first source, the first content item, and a second reference time corresponding to a second portion of the first content item,
wherein generating the first dataset comprises generating the first dataset such that the first dataset further enables access to the second annotation and information indicating the second reference time for the second annotation, and
wherein providing the first dataset comprises providing the first dataset to further enable the second annotation to be presented at a time corresponding to the second portion of the first content during a presentation of the first content item.
3. The method ofclaim 2, the method further comprising:
storing, by the computer system, a third annotation received from a second source during a third presentation of the first content item such that the third annotation is stored in association with information indicating the second source, the first content item, and a third reference time corresponding to a third portion of the first content item,
wherein generating the first dataset comprises generating the first dataset such that the first dataset further enables access to the third annotation and information indicating the third reference time for the third annotation, and
wherein providing the first dataset comprises providing the first dataset to further enable the third annotation to be presented at a time corresponding to the third portion of the first content during a presentation of the first content item.
4. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
receiving, at the computer system, a dataset request that include a first parameter related to a set of annotations,
wherein generating the first dataset comprises generating the first dataset based on the first parameter.
5. The method ofclaim 4, wherein the first parameter comprises an annotation type such that the first dataset is generated based on the annotation type.
6. The method ofclaim 4, wherein the first parameter comprises a source identifier associated with the first source such that the first dataset is generated based on the source identifier.
7. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
initiating, by the computer system, storage of the first dataset in a database;
receiving, at the computer system, a dataset request that includes a first parameter related to a set of annotations; and
identifying, by the computer system, the first dataset in the database based on the first parameter,
wherein providing the first dataset comprises providing the first dataset based on the identification of the first dataset.
8. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
identifying, by the computer system, a reaction associated with the first annotation;
determining, by the computer system, a characteristic for the first dataset based on the reaction; and
associating, by the computer system, the characteristic with the first dataset.
9. The method ofclaim 1, further comprising:
associating, by the computer system, the first dataset with a first user account;
monitoring, by the computer system, interactions by other users with the first dataset; and
determining, by the computer system, a reward to be provided to the first user account based on the interactions.
10. The method ofclaim 9, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying an amount of requests by the other users for the first dataset, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on the amount of requests.
11. The method ofclaim 9, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying a reaction of at least one of the other users with the first dataset, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on the reaction.
12. The method ofclaim 9, wherein the first annotation includes a reference associated with a product or service, and a mechanism to enable a transaction related to the product or service via the first annotation, and wherein the first annotation corresponds to a reference time at which the product or service appears in the first content item.
13. The method ofclaim 12, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying an exposure of at least one of the reference or the mechanism to at least one of the other users, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on the exposure.
14. The method ofclaim 12, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying use of the mechanism by at least one of the other users, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on the use of the mechanism.
15. The method ofclaim 12, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying an execution of the transaction enabled via the mechanism, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on the execution of the transaction.
16. The method ofclaim 12, further comprising:
identifying, by the computer system, the reference in the first annotation; and
providing, by the computer system, based on the identification of the reference, the mechanism in the first annotation to enable the transaction.
17. The method ofclaim 12, wherein monitoring the interactions comprises identifying at least one of an exposure of the reference to at least one of the other users, an exposure of the mechanism to at least one of the other users, use of the mechanism by at least one of the other users, or an execution of the transaction enabled via the mechanism, and wherein determining the reward comprises determining the reward based on at least one of the exposure of the reference, the exposure of the mechanism, the use of the mechanism, or the execution of the transaction.
18. A system for providing a dataset of annotations associated with a content item, the system comprising:
one or more physical processors programmed to execute one or more computer program instructions which, when executed, cause the one or more physical processors to:
store annotations received from a first source during a first presentation of a first content item such that the annotations are stored in association with information indicating the first source, the first content item, and reference times corresponding to portions of the first content item;
identify a first annotation of the stored annotations for inclusion in a first dataset;
generate the first dataset such that the first dataset enables access to the first annotation and information indicating the first source, the first content item, and a first reference time for the first annotation that corresponds to a first portion of the first content item; and
provide the first dataset to enable the first annotation to be presented at a time corresponding to the first portion of the first content item during a presentation of the first content item.
19. The system ofclaim 18, wherein the one or more physical processors are further caused to:
associate the first dataset with a first user account;
monitor interactions by other users with the first dataset; and
determine a reward to be provided to the first user account based on the interactions.
20. The system ofclaim 18, wherein the first annotation includes a reference associated with a product or service, and a mechanism to enable a transaction related to the product or service via the first annotation, and wherein the first annotation corresponds to a reference time at which the product or service appears in the first content item.
