Abstract

A method for data transmission in a system including a first base station controller (BSC) and a first media gateway (MGW) is provided. The first MGW receives from the first BSC an internet protocol (IP) packet with an encoded voice payload encapsulated therein. The encoded voice payload is obtained by the first BSC by removing a Transcoder and Rate Adaptation Unit (TRAU) encapsulation from data received from a base transceiver station (BTS). The first MGW determines a codec type of the encoded voice payload is the same as a codec type adopted by a second BSC connected to the first MGW or is the same as a codec type adopted by a second MGW connected to the first MGW. The first MGW sends the encoded voice payload to the second BSC or the second MGW after the determination.

Description

Claims (15)

What is claimed is:
1. A method for data transmission in a system comprising a first base station controller (BSC) and a first media gateway (MGW), comprising:
receiving, by the first MGW, from the first BSC, an internet protocol (IP) packet with an encoded voice payload encapsulated therein, wherein the encoded voice payload is obtained by the first BSC by removing a Transcoder and Rate Adaptation Unit (TRAU) encapsulation from data received from a base transceiver station (BTS);
determining, by the first MGW, a codec type of the encoded voice payload is the same as a codec type adopted by a second BSC connected to the first MGW or is the same as a codec type adopted by a second MGW connected to the first MGW; and
sending, by the first MGW, the encoded voice payload to the second BSC or the second MGW after the determination.
2. The method according toclaim 1, further comprising:
obtaining, by the first MGW, information indicating the codec type of the encoded voice payload sent from a mobile switching center (MSC) server.
3. The method according toclaim 1, wherein the first MGW sends the encoded voice payload to the second MGW without using a user plane encapsulation.
4. The method according toclaim 3, wherein the first MGW sends the encoded voice payload to the second MGW without using the user plane encapsulation if the first MGW and the second MGW adopt a single rate encoding.
5. The method according toclaim 1, wherein the first MGW sends the encoded voice payload to the second MGW by using a user plane encapsulation if the first MGW and the second MGW adopt a multiple-rate encoding.
6. A media gateway (MGW), comprising:
a processor; and
a memory having a plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, which cause the processor to implement operations comprising:
receiving from a base station controller (BSC), an internet protocol (IP) packet with an encoded voice payload encapsulated therein, wherein the encoded voice payload is obtained by the BSC by removing a Transcoder and Rate Adaptation Unit (TRAU) encapsulation from data received from a base transceiver station (BTS);
determining a codec type of the encoded voice payload is the same as a codec type adopted by another BSC connected to the MGW or is the same as a codec type adopted by another MGW; and
sending the encoded voice payload to the another BSC or the another MGW after the determination.
7. The MGW according toclaim 6, wherein the operations further comprises:
obtaining information indicating the codec type of the encoded voice payload sent from a mobile switching center (MSC) server.
8. The MGW according toclaim 6, wherein the operations comprise:
sending the encoded voice payload to the another MGW without using a user plane encapsulation.
9. The MGW according toclaim 8, wherein the operations comprise:
sending the encoded voice payload to the another MGW without using the user plane encapsulation if the MGW and the another MGW adopt a single rate encoding.
10. The MGW according toclaim 6, wherein the operations comprise:
sending the encoded voice payload to the another MGW by using a user plane encapsulation if the MGW and the another MGW adopt a multiple-rate encoding.
11. A system comprising a first base station controller (BSC) and a first media gateway (MGW),
wherein the first BSC is configured to: receive data from a base transceiver station (BTS); obtain an encoded voice payload by removing a Transcoder and Rate Adaptation Unit (TRAU) encapsulation from the received data; encapsulate the encoded voice payload in an internet protocol (IP) packet; and send the IP packet to the first MGW,
wherein the first MGW is configured to: receive the IP packet sent from the first BSC; determine a codec type of the encoded voice payload is the same as a codec type adopted by a second BSC connected to the first MGW or is the same as a codec type adopted by a second MGW connected to the first MGW; and send the encoded voice payload to the second BSC or the second MGW after the determination.
12. The system according toclaim 11, wherein the first MGW is configured to obtain information indicating the codec type of the encoded voice payload from a mobile switching center (MSC) center.
13. The system according toclaim 11, wherein the first MGW is configured to send the encoded voice payload to the second MGW without using a user plane encapsulation.
14. The system according toclaim 13, wherein the first MGW is configured to send the encoded voice payload to the second MGW without using the user plane encapsulation if the first MGW and the second MGW adopt a single rate encoding.
15. The system according toclaim 11, wherein the first MGW is configured to send the encoded voice payload to the second MGW by using a user plane encapsulation if the first MGW and the second MGW adopt a multiple-rate encoding.
