Abstract

A system of fiberglass lawn edging materials. The pultruded fiberglass system provides a lawn edging that is durable and easy to install. The fiberglass edging material comes in a long, flat shape that can be rolled up for ease of display and transport. The system includes metal or pultruded fiberglass stakes. The system includes a integral veil that allows for a variety of surface treatments.

Description

Claims (10)

What is claimed is:
1. A system of fiberglass lawn edging for installation in ground contact comprising;
a first section of relatively thin fiberglass edging having a top edge and a bottom edge, a first end and a second end and a length, said fiberglass edging including an inner layer of glass fibers laying parallel to said length, two mats of randomly oriented glass fibers covering said inner layer, and a covering layer having a surface covering at least one of said mat layers, said system further including stake means adapted to hold said lawn edging in a position with said bottom edge in contact with said ground and said top edge lying generally above the ground.
2. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 1 wherein the covering layer has a decorative pattern printed on said surface.
3. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 1 wherein the stake means includes a fiberglass stake portion adapted to be driven into the ground and means to attach the fiberglass stake portion to the fiberglass edging.
4. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 1 further comprising; a second section of relatively thin fiberglass edging, said second section of fiberglass edging having a first end, a splice coupling having a first slot adapted to receive the first end of said first section of fiberglass edging and a second slot adapted to receive the first end of said second section of fiberglass edging such that said first and second section of fiberglass edging form a continuous length of edging.
5. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 4 wherein said splice coupling includes a perpendicular bend between said first slot and said second slot such that said second section of fiberglass edging forms a perpendicular corner with said first section of fiberglass edging.
6. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 1 wherein the first section of fiberglass lawn edging is manufactured by the steps of pulling said inner layer and said two mats of randomly oriented glass fibers through liquid thermoset resin to form a wet core, covering said wet core with said covering layer to for a raw edging and then heating said raw edging in a continuous process to harden said wet core, cutting said section to length and then forming a roll from said section.
7. A system of fiberglass lawn edging for installation in ground contact comprising;
a first section of relatively thin fiberglass edging having a top edge and a bottom edge, a first end and a second end and a length, said system further including stake means adapted to hold said first section in a position with said bottom edge in contact with said ground and said top edge lying generally above the ground, a second section of relatively thin fiberglass edging, said second section of fiberglass edging having a first end, a splice coupling having a first slot adapted to receive the first end of said first section of fiberglass edging and a second slot adapted to receive the first end of said second section of fiberglass edging such that said first and second section of fiberglass edging form a continuous length of edging.
8. A system of fiberglass lawn edging for installation in ground contact comprising;
first and second sections of relatively thin fiberglass edging having top edges and bottom edges, and each of said first and second sections having first ends and second ends and lengths, said system further including stake means adapted to hold said first and second sections in position with said bottom edges in contact with said ground and said top edges lying generally above the ground, a splice coupling having a first slot adapted to receive the first end of said first section of fiberglass edging and a second slot adapted to receive the first end of said second section of fiberglass edging such that said first and second section of fiberglass edging form a continuous length of edging.
9. The fiberglass lawn edging system ofclaim 8 wherein said splice coupling includes a perpendicular bend between said first slot and said second slot such that said second section of fiberglass edging forms a perpendicular comer with said first section of fiberglass edging.
10. A process of manufacturing a fiberglass lawn edging system including the steps of pultruding a first section of fiberglass lawn edging by pulling an inner layer of fiberglass strands and two mats of randomly oriented glass fibers through liquid thermoset resin to form a wet core, covering said wet core with a decorative covering layer to form a raw section of edging and then heating said raw section of edging in a continuous process to harden said wet core, cutting said first section to length and then forming a roll from said first section and binding said roll for shipment.
