Abstract

An ink jet printhead with an array of nozzles3having ink chambers7formed at least partially from an amorphous ceramic material, such as silicon nitride, silicon dioxide (glass) or silicon oxynitride. Amorphous ceramics offer high strength and a non-crystalline structure. Crystalline material has crystal defects that can act as stress concentration points that are prone to failure in the cyclical loading environment of the nozzle chambers7.
