Abstract

A die is used for selecting one out of a number of competitors in a sporting event. The die has a plurality of faces at least some of which have markings representative of the competitors. The die provides a random choice of which of those entities is to selected depending upon positioning of the markings after rolling of the die.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
• The present invention relates to a die which is used to make a random selection of a competitor in a sporting event.[0001]
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
• When a person makes a selection of a competitor in a sporting event it is often difficult to make a choice as to which competitor is going to win the event. It is not simply a matter of picking the better person or team because odds become a factor in the selection. Often, a person will select a competitor and then later take the position that they really should have picked another competitor to have won the event. This can create serious frustrations.[0002]
• Some people will select competitors in the same manner that they pick lottery numbers i.e., they will choose based on some type of an indicator which is personal to them but which does not really represent anything to do with the event itself. For example, a person not knowing anything about the sporting event but wishing to select a competitor may simply choose based on the color of the outfit or uniform of the competitors involved in the event or some other equally non-critical factor.[0003]
SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
• The present invention provides game die which eliminates the need for a person to make a personal choice of a competitor in a sporting event in which a plurality of competitors compete against on another by providing a choice based on a rolling of the die.[0004]
• More particularly, the die has a plurality of faces at least some of which have markings representative of the competitors involved in the event. The die provides a random choice of which of the competitors is to be selected depending upon positioning of the markings after rolling of the die.[0005]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION ACCORDING TO THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION IN WHICH
• This particular die is a six sided die. In FIG. 1 position faces[0009]1,2 and3 can be seen on the six sided die.Face1 is provided with a marking of the letter F,face2 is provided with a marking of the letter A andface3 is provided with space for advertising, in this example, advertising for “Joe's Cars”.
• FIG. 2 shows the die in a different position from that seen in FIG. 1. In the FIG. 2 position faces[0010]4,5 and6 of the die can be seen.Face4 is provided with a marking of the letter D, face5 is provided with a marking of the letter H and face6 is provided with space for advertising, in this example, advertising for “Joe's Cars”.
• Each of the markings referred to above is representative of a specific characteristic of one of several entities who will be meeting in a sporting event. By way of example only, the sporting event may involve two football teams. One of those teams will be a home team i.e., playing at its home field and the other will be a visiting or away team. One of those teams will be the favorite and the other team will be the underdog. The home team may or may not be the favorite and the away team may or may not be the underdog team.[0011]
• In the particular embodiment shown the marking of the letter F identifies the favorite team. The marking of the letter H identifies the home team. The marking of the letter A identifies the away team and the marking of the letter D identifies the underdog (dog) team. The identification of “Joe's Cars” is provided on an otherwise blank face of the die which is not marked with information relating to either of the teams but which is simply left for advertising space on the die.[0012]
• A person wishing to make a selection of a competitor in the event does not have to go through the thought process of rationalizing the choice or selection but rather simply rolls the die. The person or team to be selected is chosen through the positioning of the markings on the die after it is rolled. For example, when the die is rolled to the FIG. 1 position the person will select the favorite team in as much as the F appears on the upper face of the die. If the die is rolled to the FIG. 2 position the person will select the underdog (dog) team because the marking D is in the upwardly facing position. If the D face rolls up the underdog is selected. If the H face rolls up the home team is selected.[0013]
• In the event that the marking “Joe's Cars” faces upwardly after rolling the die the person wishing to make the selection will simply re-roll the die until one of the competitor representative markings appears on the upper surface of the die.[0014]
• As will be appreciated from the above the team chosen is selected completely at random through the roll of the die.[0015]
• Although the drawings specifically show a six sided die, dies having other numbers of faces can equally as well be used. Furthermore, other identifying markings different from those disclosed in the preferred embodiments can be provided on the various different faces of the die.[0016]
• Accordingly, although various preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that variations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.[0017]

Claims (4)

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A selector die for use in a sporting event in which a plurality of competitors compete against one another, said die having die faces with markings representative of the competitors, the die providing a random choice of which of the competitors is to be selected depending upon positioning of the markings after rolling of the die.

2. A die as claimed inclaim 1 wherein only some of the faces of the die are provided with said markings and others of the faces of said die provide advertising space.

3. A die as claimed inclaim 1 when used for selecting one of two competitors playing one another and wherein the markings representative of the competitors include a home team marking, an away team marking, a favorite team marking and an underdog (dog) team marking.

4. A die as claimed inclaim 3 wherein said home team marking is indicated by the letter H, the away team marking is indicated by the letter A, the favorite team marking is indicated by the letter F and the underdog (dog) team marking is indicated by the letter D.
