CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONSThis application is based on provisional application serial No. 60/352,491 filed Jan. 30, 2002, incorporated herein in its entirety.[0001]
FIELD OF INVENTIONThe present invention relates generally to a personal hair grooming apparatus that also holds hair product external to the apparatus. Specifically, the present invention relates to a hair tooling device with a container for holding hair products that can be used in conjunction with the hair tooling device attached thereto.[0002]
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGSFIG. 1 depicts one embodiment of the invention with the container attached to a comb.[0003]
FIG. 2 depicts one embodiment of the invention with the container attached to a brush.[0004]
FIG. 3 depicts one embodiment of the invention with two containers attached thereto.[0005]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTIONFor the purpose of promoting an understanding of the present invention, references are made in the text hereof to embodiments of the invention, some of which are illustrated in the drawings. It is nevertheless understood that no limitations to the scope of the invention are thereby intended. One of ordinary skill in the art will readily appreciate that modifications such as the exact location of[0006]attachment area15 for attachingcontainer10 to elongated member20 (e.g., a brush, comb, or applicator), the shape of container10 (e.g., circular, rectangular, oval, etc.) the means by whichcontainer10 is attached toelongated member20, or the precise number ofcontainers10 attached do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention. Representational variations are given and described below. However, it should be understood that a comb embodiment is also intended to encompass the brush or other embodiments, and vice versa. Moreover, the device need not be a comb or brush. Rather, it can be any personal hair grooming device commonly used in conjunction with another personal hair care product that can be stored in the container and affixed toelongated member20. That is, it need not have teeth or bristles (e.g., a parting wand or a razor brush). Furthermore, in the embodiments depicted, like reference numerals refer to identical structural elements in the various drawings.
FIG. 1 depicts one embodiment of the invention with[0007]container10 outwardly attached toelongated member20; in this embodiment, a comb.Hair tool18 is comprised ofelongated member20, a plurality ofteeth19, andcontainer10 attached thereto.Container10 is comprised of housing11, bottom surface12, andlid13 for forming an interior volume or reservoir for storing a hair product and can be attached almost anywhere alongelongated member20 ofhair tool18. Examples of permanent attachment mechanisms are, but not limited to, a rivet, a glue or other adhesive, a nut and bolt, and a screw. Furthermore,container10 can be outwardly attached toelongated member20 such thatcontainer10 faces substantially perpendicular toteeth19, substantially parallel toteeth19, or in any other direction such thatcontainer10 does not interfere with hair tool's18 function as a personal hair grooming device.
In this embodiment,[0008]lid13 is connected to housing11 viaconnector14. One of ordinary skill in the art will recognize a variety of other ways in whichlid13 can be attached to housing11, including, but not limited to a rivet, a screw, and any other mechanism well known to the art. Furthermore,lid13 need not be permanently attached to housing11.Lid13 can be a snap-top or threaded to screw tocontainer10. It should be understood that any type of container with an interior volume that can securely store a liquid, gel, powder, etc., can be utilized.
As shown,[0009]container10 is attached toelongated member20 at attachment area (not shown). The attachment mechanism at the attachment area allows for either permanent or temporary attachment. FIG. 1 shows a permanently-attached embodiment in which bottom surface12 ofcontainer10 is permanently attached toelongated member20 by way of rivet16 in the attachment area. In addition,rivet16 may be placed off-center of bottom surface12 such thatcontainer10 can be rotated around rivet16 to be substantially overteeth19 so thathair tool18 is more compact when not in use, or rotated around rivet16 to be substantially not overteeth19 so thatcontainer10 does not interfere with hair tool's18 operation when in use.
FIG. 2 depicts an embodiment of the invention with[0010]container10 attached toelongated member20; in this embodiment, a brush. As in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1,container10 is comprised of housing11, bottom surface12, andlid13 connected to housing11 viaconnector14. It can also be appreciated, as in FIG. 1, thatcontainer10 is attached toelongated member20 at an attachment area (not shown). In the embodiment shown,container10 is attached toelongated member20 by a permanent adhesive, e.g., glue or epoxy.
FIG. 3 depicts another embodiment of the invention with two[0011]containers10 attached thereto. In this embodiment,containers10 are removably attached toelongated member20 at the side surface of housing11 ofcontainer10. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, one side of hook andloop fastener strip17 is attached to the side surface of housing11 ofcontainer10, and the other side of hook andloop fastener strip17 is attached toelongated member20 atattachment area15. Again, a person of ordinary skill in the art of assembly will recognize that the attachment mechanism used to temporarily securecontainer10 toelongated member20 can be utilized. Given as examples, and not as limitations, these attachment mechanisms can include corresponding male/female threaded connections, a hook and loop fastener, a clip, interconnected shapes (e.g. snap fasteners or male-female interconnections), a nut and bolt assembly, a screw, or other mechanisms well-known in the art.
The attachment to[0012]elongated member20 is shown along the side surface of housing11 ofcontainer10, but it is understood that the connection could also be by way of bottom surface12 ofcontainer10. Additionally, the attachment could be permanent.
