Description

Sept. 27, 1932.- c. cHoMlK BATHING GIRL TABLE 0R STAND Filed May 7. i950 4 AT-ronuzv Patented Sept. 27, 1932 UNITE s'rnrss relaas? CHARLES CHGIVIK, OF LNNTON, OREGO V- Barn-rue G1R-L TABLE on s'raun Application filed May 7,
rlhis invent-ion relates to certain new and useful improvements in table construction of the knock-down type.
One of the principal objects of the invention consists of a separably connected supporting structure.
Another of the objects of the invention embodies detachable connections between the supporting structure and table top.
More specifically stated the supporting structure may be in the nature of human and animal iigures having the feet therefor disposed in such manner that the table top will be held against tilting in any direction.
lVith the above and other objects in view',
the invention further consists of the following y novel features and details of construction, to he hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a. perspective view vention assembled for use.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of a table top showing the attaching portions for the supporting structure in section.
i Figure 3 is sectional view'taken online 3 3 of Figure 2' through Vone of the aforementioned connections. K
Figures4 and 5 are velevations of the coniponent sections of a former type of figure capable of being employed as the supporting structure. y
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote correspending parts, thereference characters 10 and 11 indicate the sections or body portions of the inof the separably connected supporting struc-A ture for the knock-down form or type of supporting structure. ln the present instance, and for purposes of illustration only, the particular iigure is in the Ynature of a bathing girl having one leg disposed in kneeling tion whereas t ie other is disposed to place the adjacent foot fiat upon the fioor surface at right angles to the other leg and for coaction with the other two points of support, namely, the knee and toe of the other leg.
The arms for the figure are arranged singly upon each of the sections and outstretched 1939. Serial No. 450,478.
in horizontal planes whereas the forea-rmsare disposedupwardly at rightV angles in the manner suggested in Figures 4 land 5. `The section 10 is provided with verticallydisposedelongated slots 12 and 13 to accommodate a horizonally projectingportion 14 and aV depending vertically disposed portion 15 respectively. The greater portion' of the length of thevertically disposedportion 15 is separated from the immediate section `11 incident to the arrangement of a slot 16 therebetween being vsuicient in width to accommol l Y date such thickness of the bodysection `10 below the end of the slot 13'. Inv this manner the sections of the body will be held against lateralinovement.v Attaching elements 17 of like formation' are carried upon the head and hands of the sections of the body or ligure forming the supporting structure, that is, each of same have communicating vertical'and horizontal edges18 and 19 whereas the remaining side edgecf the locking elements, oppositely disposed tothat .oftheedges 18 are downwardly and inwardly inclined for purposes-to be better understood in the following descrip-A tion of the invention.V v
Asshown, the' locking Delements carried byv y thelhands ofthe sections of the ligure l,have
hand engaging portions 2,1 capa-bleef bjeing v,
attached in any desired,orpreferred-manner. A table top, such as indicated at 22, which may be of any size, shapeor material, isprovided'with anchorage `means 23, 24 and 25 respectively upon theunder surface thereof.
The anchorage Ymeans 23 and 24 rightangularly disposed with respect to each other, as
suggested in Figure 2 of the drawing are of Y The U-shaped retaining means 23 and 24 are designedfor accommodation and detachable locking connection with thelockingv elements 17 carried within the hands of the body sections. The locking means 25 oppositely disi posed VVand aligned with the retaining mea-nsv 24 corresponds in shape to the latter saveV nol for the omission of one side thereof normally forming the locking element receiving channel. Theretaining means 25 is primarily designed to accommodate the remaining of the locking elements disposed upon the head of the ligure section l0 and which, as shown in Figure 4L of the drawing, has its obliquely inclined side edge oppositely disposed with relation to the arrangement of the locking element disposed within the hand carried upon the figure section instant. In other words, the locking element upon the head of the ligure section 10 is receivable from the side by the retaining means 25. A hook and screw eye connection er other suitable fastening may be employed between the retaining means 25V and the locking element upon the head of the figure section'lO to prevent accidental displacement of the aforemen- ,30 tioned assemblage.
'Although I have shown and described the supporting struct-ure as' being composed of body sections simulating that of a bathing girl, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to this form of supporting structure inasmuch as animal figures and the like may be employedwith equal effect without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion.
' The invention is susceptible of various 3C changes in its form, proportionsv and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to malle such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim. Y 3:5 Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
A table comprising a top, a trinity of cleats mounted at the under side of the top, two of the 'cleats having a recess each leading in from n o the end, the third cleat having arecess at its corner, said corner recesshavingawall aligned with one wall of the recess in one of the first mentioned cleats, all of said recesses having under-cut wall surfaces, supporting members 5 interlocking with each other and one of said supporting members having end portions adapted to enter the recesses of the cleats having aligned walls and the otherl supporting member having an end portion adapted .3Q to enter the recess of the remaining cleat.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.V
CHARLES CHOMIK.
