IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT AND GAITER STRAPS.
` Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,563, dated January 23, 1877; application tiled september 19, 1816.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HoDGINs, of the city and county ot' St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Boot and Gaiter Straps, of which the following specification is a full, clear, aud'exaot-description, reference being had t0 the aecompanying drawings.
:Thisinvention consistsin placin ga strengthening-piece of leather, sheet metal, or other suitable material, wholly on the inside of the eye of the strap, in order to prevent wear, breaking, or tearing of the strap at the said eye. y

A is the strap of a boot, shoe, or gaiter, to be used by a person drawing on his shoes, 86o. The strap may be ot' cloth, leather, or other suitable material. Within theloop a of the strap is secured a strengthening-piece, B, of' leather, the purpose being to strengthen the loop a, or that part of the eye on which the greatest wear and strain come.
I am aware that it is old to provide a strap with a piece of leather having transverse slits, through which the strap is passed, for the purpose otornamentation and the protection ot' the webbing from Wear. In applying the piece in this manner the transverse slits destroy its longitudinal strength, and the piece is only partially concealed. My piece is ap- SAMUEL -HODGINS Witnesses:
