Description

.-Iune`2, 1931. G. w.- scHAEFER PRINTING DEVICE' Original Filed Oct.
Patented June 2, 193i UNITED STATES l insane? Parl-21`frr Fries GEORGE w. sonnnrnn, or SOUTH BRAINTBEE, MASSACHUSETTS, Assrefnon To an# nRnSsoGnArH COMPANY, or wrLMrNe'ron, DELAWARE, .A oonrennrron on DELA- WARE PRINTING DEVICE Original application led October 1, 1925, Serial No. 1523. Serial This application is a division of my application Serial No. 59,825, filed October 1,1925. This invention relates to printing devices which include a frame having a printing plate with embossed characters detachably mounted on the frame and which are adapted to be stored in accordance with a card index system or in a stack and to be run through an addressing or other suitable machine for taki ing impressions from the form.
The object of the invention is to provide novel and simple means for detachably holding one or more printing plates on the frame.
And another object of the invention is to provide a novel and simple retaining device struck up from the frame for detachably holding oppositely disposed printing plates on the frame.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating a selected embodiment of the invention:
Fig. l is a front elevation of a printing device.
Fig. is a fragmentary portion of the printing device showing the invention on a larger scale.
Figs. 3 and 4- are vertical sectional views on the lines 3-3 and 4-4 respectively7 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view on theline 5 5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to thedrawings 6 is a metal frame, 7, 8 are printing plates having printing characters embossed thereon and 9 is a record card, the frame having suitable retaining devices for detachably holding the plates and card thereon.
The invention comprises a stud or button l() which may be circular or other suitable shape and made by cutting the frame and striking up the part between the cuts to lie in a plane above the front of the body of the frame. Thecuts 11, 1l are spaced apart and the stud is connected to the body of the frame by aneck 12 at its top and by aneck 13 at its bottom. This provides a retaining stud integral with the body of the frame and lying in a plane above the front of the body of the frame to overlap theplates 7 and 8 which are arranged on opposite sides of the stud. The stud is located between theplates 7 and 8 and other suitable retaining means 59,825. Divided and this application filed 2S,
No. 281,3L12.
are provided on the frame to cooperatewith the stud for holding vthe plates ori the frame. These other retaining devices may comprise abead 14 at the bottom ofthe frame engaging the lower edges of theplates 7 and 8, a yielding stop l5 engaging anotch 16 at the outer end ofplate 7 and a yieldingstop 17 engaging anotch 18 at the outer end ofplate 8. may also provide a yieldingstop 19 engaging a notch 2O at the inner end and a lip 2l engaging the outer end ofplate 8. These yielding stops are more fully set forth in my original application Seria-l No. 59,825. Thecard 9 is detachably held on the frame by thebead 22 at the top edge of the frame and bystops 23 andlips 24. Any other suitable retaining means may be used in cooperation with thestud 10 for holding` the plates on the frame and any other suitable retaining means may be employed for holding the card.
The stud forms a simple means struck up from the body of the frame for overlapping and holding one or more plates on the frame. It is conveniently located between two plates as shown for retaining both plates on the frame.
I have shown my invention embodied in a frame similar to that disclosed in my original application and in a simple form which I have found satisfactory for the purpose, but I reserve the right to embody the invention in other frames and to make changes therein with-in the scope of the foilowing claims:
I claim:
l. A printing device of the character' described comprising a sheet metal frame, two printing members arranged on the frame in adjacent relation, and means integral with the frame intermediate the two printing members for detaohably securing said members on the frame, said means comprising a stud struck up from the body of the frame between said members and having portions thereof arranged to engage opposed edges of the members.
2. A printing device of the character described comprising a sheet metal frame, two printing members arranged on the frame in adjacent relation, and means integral with ion the frame intermediate the two printing members for detachably securing said members on the frame, said means comprising a stud struck up from the body of the frame and having free side edges to over-lap kopposed edges of' the members.
3. A printing device of the character described, comprising a sheet metal frame, two printing members arranged on the frame in adjacent relation, and means integral with the frame for detachably securing said mem-V bers on the frame, said means comprising a stud struck up from the body of the frame between opposed edges of the membersl and having free edges to overlap `said opposed edges and necks between said opposed edges connecting the stud with the body of the frame.y
