"This invention relates toimprovementsin milk bottle holders; The primary objectflof the invention resides in a box like device to which access may be had only by the authorized persons having the proper key to remove thebottle of milk therefrom after the samehas been deposited therein the milkman, thus vpreventing theft of the /milk by unscrupulous persons.

to be transmitted thereto by which domestic animals habitually lickthe tops of milk bottles.
I Another objectrof the invention is. to providewa'lmilk bottle holder in'which' a pair 0 germs likely spring actuated doors Vc oact to 'close a bottle entrance opening, and amember carried by one of the doors upon thetop of the milk bottle placed in the holder to lock the doors against opening.

Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view on theline 5+5 of Figure 3 looking in the direcj tion of the arrow.
Befering more particularly to the draw ings, the reference "character 10 designates my improved milk bottle holder in its entire ty which includes a box likecasing 11, one open sideof which is closed'by ahinge door 12, which door may be locked'in a closedposition by inserting thekey 13 into thelock 14 and turning'the same to cause the bolt of the The holder also' preve nts the bottle:

hereinafter fully explained. Thetop wall of the box like casing is provided with an annular opening 116 of a'size to' freely permit of the passage of the standardsize milk bottle 1 17. Closing the under sideof the opening 16 f .ly held in a closed position bysprings 23 and 24" respectively, the tensioniof theswing 24 bemg' greaterthan the tension ofthespring i the door .19 'to a closed position more quickly than thedoor 18. The 2,:
door 19 is provided with outwardly extend ingtongues 25 which overlie the adjacent meeting edge of the door 18-to prevent in- 'wa'rd swingingmovementofthe door 19 in;
dependently of thedoor 18.
I Pivoted to thedoor 18 on the inside thereof a weightedmember 26, the weight of the same-serving to normally suspend the member in a vertical position due the weightedmember 26 is cut rawayto pro-i vide' aseat 27 of a shape to s'nugly'fit upon the'top' of themilk bottle 17 as clearly shown in Figure of the drawings;
From the description thus'far, it will be p; 1
' a milk a manner shown in Figure 2 of the drawing, the weight L of the bottle will tend to swing thedoors 18 theweight member 26 a1 andl9 inwardly, ways remamlng in a vertical pos1t1on, and for accommodatmg the weight 1n 1ts downward movement,I provide apocket 27 in the'adacent side wall ofthecasing so that the said weight may swing out of the path of downward movement of the bottle. When the bottle is released and dropped upon thecushion 15, the shock is arrested by the saidcush- I ion whereupon thesprings 23 and 24 act to return the-doors 1-8 and 19 respectively to The bottom edge or 6,
their closed position, it being appreciated that thedoor 19 is the first to fully return to closed position due to the excess tension of thespring 24 over thespring 23. When the doors are fully closed as shown in Figure 3, theseat 27 of themember 26 receives the top of thebottle 17, thus the doors are prevented from being pushed to open position. F or the purpose of preventing accidental swinging of the weightedmember 26 to a position which might release the doors, I provide 'flat arms 28 fixed to the undersides of the doors l8 and 19 and which arms extend inwardly and down- Wardly toward each other. The opposite sides of the weightedmember 26 are provided with recesses ornotches 29 for accommodating the free ends of thearms 28. These arms act as stops for limiting swinging movement of themember 26 when the door is in a closed position.
From the foregoing description it will be understood that the holder when empty is always accessible by the milkman for depositing a bottle of milk therein, but the presence of the bottle of milk within the casing serves to lock theentrance doors 18 and 19 against tampering by unauthorized persons. Thebottle 17 may be readily removed by the authorized person having thenecessary key 13 to unlock thedoor 12. Although no means has been shown for securing the holder to a support, it will be appreciated that any well known type of supporting bracket may be used for such purpose.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top wall thereof, a pair of hinged doors, spring means for holding said doors in a closed position over said opening, and means carried by one of said doors for seating upon a milk bottle dropped into said casing for locking the same again st movement to an open position.
2. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top wall thereof, a pair of hinged doors, spring means for holding said doors in a closed position over said opening, and means carried by one of said doors for seating upon a milk bottle dropped into said casing for locking the same against movement to an open position, said means including a weighted member pivoted to said door.
3. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top Wall thereof, a pair of hinged doors, spring means for holding said doors in a closed position over said opening, and means carried by one of said doors for seating upon a milk bottle dropped into said casing for locking the same against movement to an open position, said means including a weighted member pivoted to said door, and means for preventing swingin movement of said weighted member when in seated position upon a milk bottle.
4L. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top thereof, a key controlled door for access to the interior of said casing, a pair of hinged doors mounted on said casing for inward swinging movement, springs tending to normally hold the respective doors in their respective closed position beneath said opening, the springs acting upon one door being of a stronger tension than the spring acting upon the other door for closing one door aster than the other, a member pivoted to the weaker spring actuated door for overlying the top of a milk bottle when dropped into said casing through said opening and past said door.
5. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top thereof, a key controlled door tor access to the interior of said casing, a pair of hinged doors mounted on said casing for inward swinging movement, springs tending to nor mally hold the respective doors in their respective closed position beneath said opening, the spring acting upon one door being of a stronger tension than the spring acting upon the other door for closing one door faster than the other, a member pivoted to the weaker spring actuated door for overlying the top of a milk bottle when dropped into said casing through said opening and past said door, and means carried by said doors for limiting movement of said member in opposite direction.
6. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top thereof, a key controlled door for access to the interior of said casing, a pair of hinged doors mounted on said casing for inward swinging movement, springs tending to normally hold the respective doors in their respective closed position beneath said opening, the spring acting upon one door being of a stronger tension than the spring acting upon the other door for closing one door faster than the other, a member pivoted to the weaker spring actuated door for overlying the top of a milk bottle when dropped into said casing through said opening and past said door, and a cushion on the bottom of said casing for arresting the shock of a bottle dropped therein.
7. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an opening in the top thereof, a pair of hin ed doors mounted on said casing for inward swinging movement, springs tending to normally hold said doors in a closed position under said opening, the spring acting upon one door; being of a stronger tension than the spring acting upon the other door for closing one door faster than the other, a weighted member pivoted to the weaker spring actuated door and provided with seats on the under side thereof for seating upon the top of a milk bottle when dropped into said casing through said opening and past said door. v 8. A milk bottle holder comprising a box like casing having an o ening in the top wall thereof, a pair of sel closing doors clos ing said opening, pivoted members suspended from one of said doors for seating engagement with a milk bottle dropped into said I box like casing, and means for preventing swinging movement of said member when said doors are in closed osition.
