UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MATTHIAS F. BRANTINGHAM, OF SANGAMON COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
PORTABLE BARRACK.
specification of Letters Patent No. 17,256, dated May 12, 1857.
T0 all 'whom it may concem Be it known that I, MATTHIAS F. BRNT- INGHAM, of Sangamon county, State of Illinois, have invented a new Portable Barrack; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eXact description.
' `The upright posts A B, O D in Figure 1 are inserted in the ground and the crops of whatever kind are stacked around them until the stacks are as high as diesired.
No. 1, Fig. 5, an iron ring, is then attachedto the upright posts, as shown in Fig. 6, by putting No. 2, Fig. 5, an iron bolt, through the posts A B, C D, as seen in Fig. 6. No. 1, F ig. 2, is then hooked in the ring before mentioned as shown, Fig. 6. The rafters, as shown in Fig. 2, Nos. 3 and 4, are put together by tenons and pinned. The framing of the roof being then put together the roofing, either boards, thatch, or other suitable materials, is then fastened by hooks, pins, or screws or nails. Fig. 4 represents a brace intended to fitin mortise, as shown in No. 3, Fig. 2, to support the lower portion of the roof. Fig. 3 shows the frame of ends of barrack, being a straight piece of joist or scantling to support the covering of ends.
No. 1, Fig. 3, shows the piece of timber with a mortise. No. 1, shows a button to fasten the ends to brace, Fig. 4, which is easily loosened by moving aside said button. Fig. 5 shows in No. 1 the form of rings to sustain the roof. No. 2 shows the form of bolt or pin to support the ring. No. 3 shows the form of hooks in No. 1, Fig. 2, by which the roof is suspended.
