UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
FELIX SALOMON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,484, dated November 2, 1875; application filed September 11, 1875. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX SALOMON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have in vented a new and Improved Paper Box, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of my improved paper box; and Fig.
2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to so improve the paper boxes used in the trade that they are stifi'ened to such an extent as to resist more completely the strain exerted thereon, and retain their shape for a longer time.
The invention consists in binding the edges of the paper boxes with metal strips, and soldering the top or bottom parts to the side walls.
In the drawing, A represents a paper box of round, square, or other shape, and B the top parts of the same, which are for the purpose of imparting greater strength to the parts bound at the edges with narrow strips 0 of suitable sheet metal. The metal-bound edges of the side walls and bottom, and of the top parts, are soldered together, rendering thereby the top and bottom parts of the box sufficiently stiff and rigid to resist the strains to which they are exposed. The upper edge of the box A is bound with a wider strip, D, thatstiffness almost equal to wooden or tin boxes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent' As a new article of manufacture, a paper box, having its top and bottom edges bound with sheet metal, and its bottom also similarly bound and fastened in by solder uniting the bindings, and also having its top strengthened by a wire inclosed in a tube formed in an in,- ner extension of the top binding, substantially as specified.
FELIX SALOMON.
