Description

Nov. 20, 1928.
1,692,643 A. c. FORTE IDENTIFYING mason OR cmacx HOLDER Filed Ju1y 9, 1925 I I 11v ENTO Azzwmhizg BY ATTORNEY.
Patented Nov. 20, 1928. v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT C. FORTE, OF VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA.
IDENTIFYING RI'B'BOJBT Application filed July 9,
ribbon by an unauthorized person, so as to overcome the practice which is so common at dances or amusement resorts, of passing the ribbon or check or a part of the same to some other person to allow him to enter the dance hall or amusement resort, and with the holder so constructed that when once the ribbon or check is fixed to the garment of a person it cannot be removed from the holder without rendering the same of no value.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a holder for the purpose referred to, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, thoroughly efiicient in its use, conveniently adjusted to fixedly secure the ribbon or check to the garment of a person, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects I in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure l is a cross sectional view of the holder.
Figure 2 is an inverted plan of the retainer section of the form shown inFigure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan View of the supporting section with the check or ribbon carried thereby.
A holder, in accordance with this invention, comprises a supporting section for an identifying ribbon or holder, and a retaining section for maintaining the ribbon or check on the supporting section.
Referring to the drawing 19 generally indicates the retainer section and 20 the supporting section for the ribbon or check 21.
The sect-ion 19 is in the form of a circular button and comprises a body portion which is hollow and formed of a flat closed top 22, a rounded closedside 23 and a dish-shaped 0R CHECK HOLDER.
1925. Serial No. 42,575,
bottom 24 preferably of concave-convex curvature in cross section. The bottom 2 f is provided with a centrally disposed openingand with an integral upstandingfrustoconical sleeve 25 having its inner face registering with the wall. of the opening in. said bottom. Thesleeve 25 is of a length to have its free or inner end arranged substantially in alignment with the lower end of theside 23, to form an appropriate clearance bet-ween said end and the inner face of the top 22. Thesleeve 25 is arranged completely within the body portion and provides a retaining member coacting with thesection 20 for securing the latter to the section 19.
Thesection 20 comprises a circular base I 26 of materially less diameter than the section 19, and extending from the inner face of thebase 26, is an integral stem formed of a pair ofcylindrical portions 27, 28, the former of greater diameter than the latter and of less diameter than the diameter of the base. Theportion 27 is integral with thebase 26. Theportion 28 is of greater length than theportion 27, and for the major port-ion of its length, it is slitted atright angles, as at 29, to provide a series of resilient lockingarms 30. Each of thearms 30 is provided at its upper end with an outwardly extending and upwardly inclined rib 31 which merges intoa a head 32 of triangular contour having its outer face curving outwardly and downwardly fro-m its apex towards its base throughout whereby the base of the head will overhang theportion 28, so that the rib 31 can seat against the upper edge of thesleeve 25 where by thesections 19 and 20 will be connected together to prevent the removal of the check orribbon 21, as the latter is mounted on the stem between theportion 27 andbase 26. The heads, 32 owing to the like curvature of their outer faces provide when forced together a puncturing or piercing element for the ribbon or check when the latter is to be mountedon thesection 20.
What I claim is:
A holder for the puruose set forth comprising a retaining section consisting of a hollow body portion including a top, a side and a dislrshaped bottom formed with a central opening, said bottom being concavo-convex in cross section and a frusto-conical sleeve integral at its larger end with said bottom and arranged completely within the body portion and of a length to project beyond said bottom,'the inner end of said sleeve being spaced from the inner face of said top, and a sup- ;porting section consisting of a circular base head-integralwith the free end ofeach arm and having its outer face curving outwardly and downwardly throughout from its apex to its bflSeySaldhGfldS co-acting with the inner edge of said means for securing the retainin section and supporting section together, and said shoulder and base co -acting to secure a check to said stem.
In testimony whereof, I aflix mysignature 20 hereto;
ALBERT C. FORTE.
