RIBBON FASTENER.

This invention 'relates to improvements in ribbon fasteners, and the like, and is here shown enibodied in a device especially adapted for fastening or holding ribbons, straps, tapes and the like. For example, the improved fastener may be used in connection with womens wear for detachably securing the shoulder straps to shirts, underwear, negligees, brassieres, land the like.

One of the features of my invention is the provision of a simple and neat clamp or fastener for ribbons, tape and the like, that not only will serve as an adjusting device but also will permit quick and ready fastening and loosening of the end of such a ribbon.

In connection with the use of shoulder straps on womenls wear of the kinds mentioned, it is desirable to secure the strap to the garment so that it may be easily and quickly detached for renewal, washing and 'the like, and yet be adjustable in length. One of the features of my invention is the provision of a fastener that will permit such adjustment of length and also quick and ready detachment. Also, in connection with hose supporters, especially for women and children; and in connection with childrenls and babies, clothing, there are many instances where it is necessary or desirable to provide means for fastening the end of a ribbon, tape or strap, or the like, to some other garment 01' part of a garment and also provide means for adjusting the length of such ribbon, tape or strap. By the use of niy invention, a device that will perform these functions can be easily and cheaply made.

My improved device is also simple in construction, neat in appearance and efi'icient in operation.

Other features and advantages of my invention will appear more fully as I proceed with my specification.

In that form of device embodying the features of my invention shown in lthe accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a view in front elevation, Fig. 2 is a view of the same in side elevation, Fig. 3 is a view taken as indicated by the line 3 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4:4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified form, Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing said modified form, and Fig. 6 is a. view in perspective showing the device as used to fasten the ends of shoulder straps to a garment.

As shown in the drawings, the improved fastener comprises a substantially rectangular open Aframe preferably formed out of sheet metal or wire. In Ifig. 1 said frame is shown as formed out of sheet metal and the device shown in Figs. 4 and 5 is made out of wire..

As shown in Fig. 1, the upper corners of theframe 10 are. provided with two inwardly` pro]ecting eal'sA 10a, 10a, and the lower member of the frame is provided with an upwardly bent flange orpin retaining member 10.

The ends of the wire projecting from the lower cornersvof the frame as indicated by 111 have their ends sharpened to form pins, and these sharpened ends are adapted to be hooked under the ears 110EL after they have been inserted through a garment.

In Fig. 3 the device is shown as applied to a strap and garment. In this figure, 12 indicates, for example, a shoulder strap which is passed downwardly in front of the upper cross-bar 10c (110c of' the modified form shown in Figs. 4 and 5) thence through the open frame in back of thelower crossbar 10d (1101 of the modified form shown in Figs. t and 5) and thence engaged by thepins 11,11 (111, 111 of the modified form). 12a indicates the free hanging end of thestrap 12 which is within the garmentl. It will be seen that the length of the st-rap 1:2 may be adjusted as desired by engaging the same in the pins at the proper place.

VVhen the fastener has been attached to the strap as above desoribed, it is attached to the garment by pinning in the obvious manner. Such pinning may be at any desired point. For example, thepins 11 may be inserted through the hem of the garment 18, as shown in Fig. 3, or the pins may be inserted through the garmentin any other place. After the pins are in place the ends are snapped or hooked behind the hooks 10a to protect the points and hold the fastener in place.

TWhile I have shown and described certain cmbodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without depar ing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as possible in View of the prior art.

That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A single piece of Wire bent into a substantially rectangular open frame with two inwardly projecting loops at the upper corners to form ears, the ends of said Wire projectng from the lower corners of said frame with their ends sharpened to form pins, said sharpened ends adapted to be hooked under the aforesaid ears after insertionv through a garment. a

2. A single piece of wire bent into a substantially rectangular open frame with two inwardly projecting loops at the upper corners to form ears, and two inwardly projecting doubled portions at the lower Corners, the ends of said wire projecting from the lower Corners of said frame with their ends sharpened to form pins, said sharpened ends adapted to be hooked under the aforesaid ears after insertion through a garment.
