Description

R. FLEMING STOVE LEG LdcK Filed April 27, 1925.
Patented Feb. 9, 1926.
UNITED STAT ES PATENT OFFICE.
RIVES FLEMING, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
STOVE-LEG LOCK.
Application filed April 27, 1925. Serial No. 26,136.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, RIVES FLEMING, a vcitizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Leg Looks; and I do hereby declare the fol-' lowing to be a full, clear, and'exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements 1:: stove leg locks, particularly in the means for locking the legs to the stoves in such a manner that they cannot work loose and fall away from the supported part.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive form of lock for stove legs consisting of sheet metal springs or other suitable spring material.
Other objects will appear from the following detailed description.
In the drawings, I
Fig. 1 represents an elevation view of the stove leg assembled in locked relation to an ordinary stove, the locking device being shown in sections.
Fig. .2 shows a sectional view of the spring lock in operable position to a stove and stove leg.
Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the stove leg, and also spring lock device, as they appear just previous to being placed in locked relation to each other, the sheet metal spring having been attached to a stove or other suitable object.
Fig. a designates a perspective view of the upper or interlocking portion of the stove leg; showing the special construction of the slot for receiving the spring.
Numeral 1, designates an ordinary stove leg, while 2 represents a stove or other suitable object that may be supported by the leg. Securely fastened by means ofscrews 3 or otherwise to the stove is a spring plate t, formed with a groove 5, the groove 5 being made preferably by bending the sheet metal plate 4 at 6 and 7, thereby forming a receiving sleeve. On inserting the tongue of theleg 1 into the receiving sleeve 5, the novel constructedspring 10 will snap into locked relation with slot- 9 in the tongue portion 8. This spring is preferably made by bending inward of the groove 5, a section of metal integral with plate 4. The slot in the tongue portion 8, of the leg is designed with a special inclined section as at '11, adapted to receive in conjunction with the slot 9, thespring portion 10. In order to assure quick release of the leg from locked position, a section of thespring 10 is cut away at 12, adapted to allow the insertion of a lever for lifting the spring and thereby releasing the leg. The tongue 8,
spring 10, and groove 9, are tapered slightly inwardly in order to insure an easy access to the receiving groove.
In operation this invention provides a simple means for effectively looking a leg to a stove, with no danger of falling away from locked relation until released by the operator. It is also inexpensive, and easily adapted to the purpose for which intended.
W'hat Iclaim is: v
1. The combination with a stove of a leg and neans for locking the leg to the stove comprising a tongue having a slot on the leg adapted to be received in locked relation by a sheet metal sleeve fastened to the stove.
2. The combination with a stove of a leg and means for looking the leg to the stove comprising a tongue having a slot on the leg adapted to be received in locked relation by a sheet metal sleeve fastened to the stove the sheet metal sleeve having a spring portion integrally a part thereof, adapted to snapinto the slot, thereby bringing the stove and leg together into locked relation.
3. The combination with a stove having a sheet metal plate bent into the form of a channel attached thereto, of a leg having a slotted tongue portion, and means for holding the stove and leg in locked relation consisting of a spring formed from an integral portion of the sheet metal plate and adapted to interlock with the slotted tongue portion.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
RIVES FLEMING.
