' ROBERT H. MCGINTY, OF MOULTON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PlCKET-FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,660, dated October 6, 1874; application filed- August 10,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. MGGINTY,
of Moulton, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented a new and use ful Improvement in Fences, of which the folers and laud-owners are obliged to make fences of such timber as can be readily obtained.
' In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of a fence constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the same. showing the bracing-posts.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This fence is mainly composed of posts or pickets set in the ground in zigzag form, with their upper ends brought to a straight line and secured by wires.
A represents the posts, pickets, or stakes. B B are the wires, by means of which their top ends are connected and supported. At certain distancessay, one hundred feet, more or lessare placed bracing-posts O 0. These posts are placed in pairs, having their lower Fig. 3 is an end view,
The posts A being set zigzag in the ground are all, more or less, in an inclined position, so
. that they brace in opposite directions, and,
being connected with the bracing-posts, the whole form a strong and durable fence, well calculated to withstand the pressure of the wind from'either direction.
The quantity of material and the labor required-to construct this fence render it cheaper than any equally durable fence now in use.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A fence composed of the posts or pickets A, set zigzag in the ground, with their upper ends brought to a straight line, and supported by the wires B B, the bracing-posts O, stakes D, and stay-wires E, arranged substantially as shown and described.
