Description

Oct. 6, 1925- 1,555,903 A. v. BROWN DETACHABLE CONNECTING DEVICE FOR HOSE SUPPORTERS Filed July 22, 1922 fzmron- Arne/d rown. I
Patented Get. 6, 1925.
UNITED STATES 1,555,902; PATENT OFFICE.
ARNOLD v. BROWN, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR To AMERICAN NAR- Row FABRIC COMPANY, A CORPORATION OE MASSACHUSETTS.
DETACHABLE CONNECTING DEVICE FOR HOSE SUPPORTERS.
Application filed July 22, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnNoLn V. BRowN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vorcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Detachable Connecting Device for Hose Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for connecting two pieces of fabric, as for example tape or elastic, in Such a way that they can be detached from each other readily but will not become disconnected accidentally.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device for this purpose which will be simple and convenient and certain in its action and will be very inexpensive to make in large quantities.
Reference is to be had to the accompany- 111 drawings, in which ig. 1 is a front view of a hose Supporter of the ordinary type having its two parts connected by a device constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the Same;
Figs. 3 and 4 are are front views showing the application of the invention to other forms of Connecting devices and showing the flat blank before the holding trip is bent over; and
Fig. 5 is an edge view of the latter.
In the form Shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the device is made of a stamping of sheet metal and comprises alower bar 10, amiddle bar 11 and atop bar 12, all parallel. The lower bars and 11 are spaced materially apart and integrally connected at both ends so as to provide an enclosed rectangle formed of the stamped metal with its corners and ends all rigid. One of these ends, as 13, is extended beyond themiddle bar 11 and has at its end thetop bar 12 projecting from it parallel with the other twobars 10 and 11. Thistop bar 12 is provided atits opposite free end with ahook 14 and is not connected with the body of the device at that end. This furnishes a means by which thisbar 12 can be inserted through a sewed loop in the bottom of the fabric and the hook 14: extended under it. as shown in Fig. 1, so as to detachably hold the loop and yet prevent any accidental detachment. This furnishes a Simple and convenient way of connecting this metallic connector detachably to the bottom of a garment, tape or elastic.
Serial No. 576,782.
In the form shown in Fig. 3, theupper bar 12 andhook 14 are used as in the other case, but in place of the lower parts is a Similar bar andhook 21 integrally connected with the upper bar. These parts can be made of sheet metal stamping, if desired, as shown, but can be made of a piece of wire.
An additional feature is provided consisting of a strip ofmetal 16 having integral teeth 17 connected with thebar 10 along the bottom thereof and bent over upwardly from the fiat position shown in Fig. 3 so as to clamp the extreme end of the tape against thebar 10. Thisstrip 16 is, of course, forced over into clamping position by suilicient pressure and holds the tape firmly in place at thetops This provides a more effective fastening device without materially increasing the cost and in fact permitting of the assembling with an actual reduction in the cost because the tape does not have to be sewed to form a loop.
The toothed fastening strip can be applied to any of the forms shown and can be applied either at the bottom or top, or both, as Shown in the last three figures.
In Fig. 1 a toothed swedging or clinchingstrip 16 suitable for attaching webbing and other fabrics is shown in connection with a supporter in such a way that it provides a practical way of making it in the cheapest manner. By utilizing the metal from the Slot as a part of the clinching or swedging device the metal removed to provide the slot is bent over, thus forming a member designed to clamp the fabric. This is provided without waste of metal.
This invention provides a very inexpensive form of device for the purpose intended and insures the ready detachment of the depending tape or elastic without bending the metal parts of the connecting piece or distorting them in any way. The edges can be finished up so as not to injure the fabrics when the device is used. It is also all located in a plane so it can be formed of a metal stamping of the Simplest character or of w1re.
Although I have illustrated and described only three forms of the invention, I am aware of the fact that other modifications can be made therein by any person Skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims.
Therefore, I do not wish to be limited to all the details of construction herein shown and described, but What I do claim is.:-
1. As an article of manufacture, a con-,
sewed loop in the end of a tape or the like,
one of said bars having a strip of metal along the edge thereof bent over into a plane substantially parallel with it and provided With teeth transverse to the plane of the barsv for engaging the end. of a tape and holding it against said bar.
2. As an article of manufacture, a con.- necting device for a hose supporter consisting of a pair of parallel bars connected at: one end, each ofv said bars having a hook on the other end, oneof said bars having a strip of metal along the edge thereof bent over into a plane substantially parallel with it but spaced from. itand. provided With teeth for engaging the end of a tape and holding it against said bar.
3. As an article of manufacture, a connector for the purpose described comprising two bars connectedtogether at one end spaced apart and parallel With each other, one of said bars having at its 'free end a hook extending inwardly and toward the other bar but in the same plane, and the other of said bars having an integral strip of metal thereon extending along it and over it and provided with transverse teeth for gripping the end of a tape or the like thereto.
l. As an article of manufacture, a connector for a hose supportercomprising a single piece of metal provided with parallel bars spaced apart and integrally connected at one end, each of said bar's being adapted to be connected With the end. of a piece of tape and one being provided With astrip lying over it and provided With projections for clamping a piece of tape to it.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afii'xed my signature.
ARNOLD v. BROWN.
