To all 21: from it may concern Be it known that I, VVADE Si-IILLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chin Rests, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting the chin of a corpse during the process of embalming, it particularly relating to a device of this kind which has a rest or support with provision for holding the same in difierent positions of adjustment.
One of the objects of my invention is to providea device of the character referred to which will be simple in construction and effective in operation.
A further object of this invention is to provide improved means for holding the device in its supporting position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is readily foldable into a small compass for transportation purposes.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved form of seat for the chin of a character which will have a tendency to prevent the rest from slipping from its supporting position.

Fig. 5 is a View showing the device in folded position.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a shank of fiat sheet metal, one end of which is provided with a divided curled portion 2 to receive a hinge pintle 3. Hinged to the pintle 3 between the divided portions 2 is an arm 4:, the shank 1 being provided with a stop 5 to limit the swinging movement of this arm in one direction.
Pivoted to the outer end of the arm 4: is a finger adjustable as to length and consisting of three members 6, 7 and 8. The member 6 is pivoted to the arm 4: by a small screw bolt 9, which extends at right angles to the hinged pintle 8; a nut 9 serving to place enough friction upon the parts to hold which is of channel form, is rigidly secured by riveting or otherwise with the portion 6 and the outer member 8 is slidably mounted in the channel portion 7, ascrew bolt 10 projecting through the member 8 and aslotted opening 11 in the channel portion serving to hold the parts in different positions of adjustment, so that the finger may be lengthened or shortened.
Rigidly secured to the member 8 of the finger is a cup-shaped seat 13 which acts as a vacuum cup when brought in contact with the chin of the corpse to hold the support in proper position.
In operation, the shank is slipped beneath the shoulder of the corpse, thearm 4 swung against the stop 5 and the finger moved about its pivotal point 9 and adjusted as to length to bring the vacuum cup 14 in proper supporting position. To fold the device for transportation purposes, thearm 4 is folded against the end slde of the shank 1 and the finger and its vacuum cup folded parallel with the arm t as shown in Fig. 5.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a comparatively narrow shank capable of t'hem"'inadjustedposition. The part 7,
being slipped beneath one shoulder only of the corpse, and adjustable chin supporting devices carried by said shank extending directly from the upper end of the shank to the chin.
2. In a device of the character described, a shank arranged to he slipped beneath one shoulder only of the corpse, and adjustable chin supporting devices carried by said shank, said devices extending directly from the shoulder of the corpse to the chin leaving the side of the neck exposed.
3. In a device of the character described, a fiat, comparatively narrow shank arranged to be slipped beneath one only of the sh0ulders of the corpse, and adjustable chin supporting devices carried by one end of said shank, said chin supporting devices being extended directly from the shoulder of the corpse in a general, upward and lateral direction to the chin of the corpse.
4:. In a device of the character described, a fiat shank arranged to be slipped beneath the shoulder of the corpse, an arm pivoted to said shank, a finger pivoted to said arm, and a vacuum cup on the end of said finger.
5. In a device of the character described,
a fiat shank arranged to be slipped beneath the shoulder of the corpse,. an arm pivoted to said shank in a manner to permlt it to be folded thereon, and a finger pivoted to 5 said arm in a manner to permit it to be" folded substantially parallel therewith. V
6. In a device of the character described,
a flat shank arrangedto be slippedbeneath the shoulder of the corpse, an arm pivoted 1 to-one end'of saidshan-k, a stop on said shank'for said arm, a finger adjnstable as to length pivoted to the free end of said arm, the last mentioned pivotal point being arranged'at right angles to the pivotal point between said shank and arm, and means for adjusting the length of said arm.
