IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,045, dated J 11110 17, 1873; application filed February 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. IRVING, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Suspenders or Braces, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to the manner of combining such materials for the straps which pass over the shoulders with the elastic pieces in which are the button-holes, loops, or metal hooks sometimes used to fasten the suspenders to the clothing, so that the shoulder-straps may be readily detached from the elastic straps for the purpose of washing the same, and a new or clean set may be substituted therefor and this I accomplish by making the said shoulder-straps of any suitable material which can be washed and ironed, or otherwise cleansed, whenever the same shall have become soiled; and uniting them to the elastic straps, which is effected by a buckle on each front end, and by a buckle in the middle, looped, and having a button and a buttonhole, as will be described. The novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of a non-elastic and removable central strap of thin linen, or other light and cool fabric, elastic straps for attachment to the buttons of pantaloons, and a fastening-button connecting said central strap with and rendering it removable from the slide, connected with the rear elastic straps, as hereinafter described and claimed.
