lt Will be understood that my invention is designed to be used in connection with abcd bottoni which may be Wholly of `fabric such as canvas or partly of material of the flexible spring bed bottom or Wire type which is designed to be supported by a 'knock down frame aii'd have tension applied when in use.

Pinned or otherwise suitably secured on the end of the Windingtube 7 is a collar 11 Which has ratchet teeth 11 formed on the end thereof designed to coact withcorresponding ratchet teeth 9" on thering 9. Asthe ratchet ring is held against rotation `by theprojections 9 engaging therecesses 8 the roller may be rotated to place tension on the bed bottom. the engagement of theratchet teeth 11a and 9b holding it in any position to which it may be adjusted.
For conveniently rotating the Winding roller I place around the collar 11 a rotatable ring 12ivhich has an internal pawl 12aN designed to engage an annular series of Vratchet teeth 11b on the collar 11, these teeth being preferably formed on an annu lar or peripheral flange on the collar and thering 12 being rotatably held in position by flanges or side plates 13' overlapping said flange. .A handle 14: preferably hinged or folding, is securedtothe ring 12 by Which l the latterv may b e oscillated, and, through the pawl` and ratchet mechanism described, the roller may be rotated.
For disengaging the pawl and ratchet mechanism 11a-9b, above described to release the roller, provide a rotatable collar encircling thesocket member 8 which has a spring pressed dog 15a designed to engage either notch of a pair of notches or recesses 8) in the periphery ofmember 8.
VThiscollar 15 has a ange overlying the face ofthevmember 8 from Which project a pair of cams or beveled projections 15b designed to coact with correspondingly beveled faces on the locking projections 9a.
"When thecollar 15 is oscillated in one -direction so that the'locking dog registers with one of the recesses the cams 15b will engage the projections 9a and force theratchet ring 9 inward into the socket member until theratchet teeth 9b are out of V` locking dog or paWl 12a', I may provide a pivotedV 'dog 12X having a rounded boss :v at its end designed to rest in a recess m in thering 12 so that the paivl may be slipped in before theside plates 12 are secured in place and thus held Without other fastening means.`
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. In combination, a bar or rod, a winding cylinder rotatably carried by the said bar, a paWl and ratchet mechanism, an os cillating handle connected With said cylinder by paWl and ratchet mechanism, ratchet clutch mechanism interposed between said bar and cylinder, and means for disconnecting said ratchet clutch mechanism.
2. In combination, an end bar or rod, a cylindrical roller rotatable about said bar, inclined clutch teeth on the end of said roller, a clutch ring slidably and non rotatably held in relation to the bar carrying saidroller and having teeth coacting with the teeth on the roller, a spring` pressing said ring toward the roller, a rotatable cam ring designed to move said ring against the tension of the spring to disengage the teeth, and means for rotating said roller.
3. In combinationan end bar or rod, a cylindrical roller rotatable about said bar, inclined clutch teeth on the end of said roller, a clutch ring slidably and non rotatably held in relation to the bar carrying said roller and having teeth coacting with the teeth on the roller, a spring pressing said ring toward the roller, a rotatable cam ring designed to move said ring against the tension of the spring to disengage the teeth,
a ring member encircling one end of the roller, pawl and ratchet means connecting said ring member and roller, and a folding handle connected to said ring member. Y
