Description

1. cA. CALL/us. COIN CHANGING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 24, I9'l8.
Patented Jan. 11, 1921.
II I l z MII FFICE.
JULEIAN' C. GALLI-ils, OF ST. LOUIS, MESSOURI.
COIN-CHANGING APPARATUS.
Application filed June 24,
To @ZZ 't0/0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JULIAN C. CALLAIS a citizen of the United States, residing at `t. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Coin- Changing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being` had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in coin changing apparatus and has for its object to provide a unit for dispensing a particular denomination of coinage, to be detachably secured to a coin changing machine of the well-known type which is carried by the belt or garments or its user.
ln the drawings- Figure l is a front elevation of a device embodying my invention in place upon the ordinary coin-changing machine (the latter being indicated in outline by dotted lines).
Fig. 2 is an end elevation oi the same.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View ot the same taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. l is a ragmental view of the lower portion of the same in closed position.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same with the dispensing annulus in opened position.
As shown in the drawings, the usual apparatus worn by a conductor or other' change-making user is ot the general outline indicated by the dotted lines in 1, and numbered 10 in said view; the usual construction thereof comprising chambers 11 (for quarters) 12 (for dimes) 13, and 14 (for -cent coins). My invention is an attachment for this structure, consisting primarily or anauXiliary chamber 15 to hold coins (such as one-cent coins) for making change in denominations other than those provided for by the main dispensing-chambers.
Thechamber 15 has the usualslotted cap 16, and is mounted on thechamber 14 by suitable attaching means such as the springclamp l? (see Figs. 1, 2 and 3), a yoke 1S further providing against slippage. Abascplate 19 carries the ejector annulus 2O pivotally mounted at 21, and said base-plate 19 also, carries thevertical plate 22 to which thetoothed sector 23 is pivotally mounted at Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 11, 1921.
1918. Serial No. 241,556.
211; the teeth of thesector 23 meshing with the toothed-plate 25, saidplate 25 being mounted on the outer face of theannulus 20. A thumb-plate 26 extends outwardly from thesector 23 for manipulation by the user, downward pressure on saidplate 26 serving to discharge the coins fed to theannulus 20 from the barrel or chamber l5. when the parts are in the relative positions shown in Fig. 5, and when in that position the :flange 2T with which theannulus 20 is provided serves to hold baclr the column of coins in thechamber 15.
Theannulus 20 is of such height as to receive only the number of coins (for illustration, live one-cent coins) as are to be dispensed at each operation; the bed-plate 1S being recessed as indicated by 2S, to permit the group of coins charged therein to tall downwardly when theannulus 20 is thrown out of registration with thebarrel 15, and to opened position.
This attachment is primarily of use where five-cent or ten-cent fares have been altered to odd-cent charges. rlhe user having the old apparatus designed tor making change only in multiples of five-cents can thus add a single unit enabling change to be made for sixcent or other odd-amount fares or charges.
T heannulus 20 is normally maintained in alinement with thebarrel 15 by means ot' theleaf spring 29.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is-- l. in a money changing apparatus, an auxiliary unit comprising a coin receptacle. an ejector adapted to receive a plurality of coins from said receptacle at a single charge, and means ior moving said ejector to discharge its content; in combination with means for detachably mounting said auX- iliary unit on a money-changing machine.
2. Coin ejecting means for money changing apparatus, said means comprising a iframe, an ejector member pivotally mounted thereon, a toothed sector mounted in a substantially vertical plane on said trame, and a toothed plate tired in substantially horizontal plane on said ejectoi1 membei and having its teeth in engagement with said sector.
3. In a money changing apparatus, an auxiliary unit comprising a coin receptacle, un ejector adapted. to receive a plurality of coins from said receptacle at a single charge, and means for moving said ejector to clischnrge its content; in combination with means for detachably mounting seid uux- 10 iliztry unit in operative location beside a money changing machine.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my signature.
JULIAN C. CALLAIS.
