Description

G. F. FISCHER.
SHOE HEEL.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 21,1919.
Patentd Aug. 17, 1920.
- G.F.Fi,sche1* WITNESS: INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
GEORGE F, FISCHER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
SHOE-HEEL.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonen F. FISCHER, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State oi New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Heels, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention relates to boots and shoes, particularly to heels therefor, and has for its object the provision of a shoe heel within which is mounted a rubber plug provided with means whereby the plug may be caused to extend a greater or less distance beyond the lower surface of the heel, the advantage of this construction being that the rubber plug may be moved to extend the proper distance beyond the heel at all times so that wear on the plug may be compensated for or taken up.
An important object is the provision of a heel of this character which may be formed of any desired material, such as wood, leather, or metal, and within which is provided a screw-threaded mounting for the plug of rubber or any other suitable mate rial whereby upon rotation of the plug with respect to the heel, the plug may be caused to extend the desired distance below the bottom of the heel.
Another object is the provision of a shoe heel of this character which will be extremely simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eflicient in use, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
\Vith the above and other objects and advantages in View, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a shoe sole and heel having my de vice associated with the heel thereof, and
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates the outer sole of a shoe and B designates the heel which may be formed of the usual materials.
In carrying out my invention I provide secured upon the lower surface of the heel, an anchor plate 15 which has one portion Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1920.
Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,150.
16 of the same contour as the heel B and secured'thereto by meansof suitable nails or the like 17. Adjacent theportion 16, the member 15 has "formed thereon a right angularly extendingportion 18 from which extends ashank portion 19 secured by means of suitable nails or the like 20 upon the shank portion of the sole A. Theportion 18 of the member 15 is disposed against the breast or" the heel B and, together with the adjacent parts of theportions 16 and 19, is cut away, as shown at 21, for the sake of lightness. Theportion 16 is also provided with a circular hole 22 which registers'with acircular recess 23 formed in the heel B.
Secured within the recess in the heel is acylindrical shell 30 within which is movably mounted arubber plug 31. This plug is provided centrally with apassage 32 which registers with a hole in anut 33 embedded within the plug. Cooperating with thenut 33 is a bolt 34L- which has an angular, preferably square, head 35, embedded within the heel and which has itsshank 36 extending within thepassage 32 and engaged within thenut 33.
It will be seen that in the use of the device, when the plug is worn it is merely necessary to rotate the same in the proper d1- rection, whereupon the engagement of the nut upon the bolt will cause the plug to be extended so as to protrude beyond the socket shell to compensate for wear.
When the rubber plug is entirely worn down it may be readily replaced by a new one, as will be obvious and it will be apparent that a shoe equipped with my device will last indefinitely as far as'the heel part thereof is concerned.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will of course be readily understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement or parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim In combination with a heelprovided with a cylindrical recess, a cylindrical socket member secured within said recess, a bolt r 5 a bore for the passage of said bolt, and a Witnesses:
extending through the socket member and upon rotation of said plug the same may be having an angular head'embedded Within caused to extend to a greater or less extent the heelat' the bottom of the recess, rubber beyond the lower surface of the heel.-
plug engaged within the socket and having GEORuifi LR-FISCHER.
nut embedded Within the plug and having FLOYD S. FISCHER, 1 I threaded engagement with the bolt whereby A. F. M. DAVIS.
