Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT F. Younc, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kmgs and State of New York, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Invisible Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has as its principal objectto provide a type of device used in supporting the lower garments,'as worn by either sex, commonly known as a palr of suspenders or braces, in which the straps, bands, and other parts are disposed within the outer shirt and hence rendered invisible to ordinary observation.

A further object is to provide such suspenders in forms comfortable to wear, being self adjusting, easy to attach, efficient for their main purpose of support, additionally holding the oversliirt relatively adjusted to the trousers, and finally providing a device that is neat in appearance and produced at low cost.

These objects are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1, is a perspective View showing the usual ensemble of garments, including the application of the invention and manner of attachment.

Referring to the drawings in detail, thenumeral 15 designates a lower garment, as a pair of trousers, theflap 16 being unbuttoned and turned down on one side, disclosing theusual buttons 17, attached in spaced relation to the inner side of thewaist band 18, over which is securedloops 19, through which a belt may be passed, if the garment is so supported, while ordinarily thebuttons 17, are used to engage the ends of suspenders.

Theouter shirt 20, is of the usual type, provided withsleeves 21, the parts of the bosom meeting at thefront 22, and finished with acollar band 23, as is customary, theundershirt 24, being disposed as common.

The article comprising the invention, as will be evident is worn between theouter shirt 20, and theundershirt 24, and consists of aninelastic webbed strap 25, arranged to extend vertically at the center of the back from about the waist line to a point below the arms, at which point are secured two divergingbranches 26, which pass over the shoulders to the front, inparallel straps 27, which haveloops 28, at their lower ends secured adjustably bybuckles 29.

Engaged in these loops arelinks 30,conn cting sockets 32, formed by folding and uniting the ends of webbed material, and which support at their lower ends,other links 33, in turn engaging standard types of clasps or fasteners 34, engageable with buttons direct or over cloth, disposed about the buttons, in a well known manner.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, it will be seen that thesockets 32 are slotted lengthwise as at 36, while in Fig. 4, ametal clip 38, is secured bystitches 39, to the face of the sockets, the slotted portions or clips serving to guide and support, as well as to frictional contact with anelastic belt 40, passing ciroumferentially around the body and secured adjustably by thebuckle 41.

Thebelt 40, also passes through aloop 42, fastened on the lower portions of theweb strap 25, in such manner as to move freely up and down therein and is held relatively to the strap by ashort loop 43 attached to the belt.

Thestrap 25, is provided with a fixedbutton 45, secured immediately above theloop 42, and engageable therewith is apad 46,

having abuttonhole 47, while diverging from the pad are a pair of short straps 48, carrying at theirlower ends clasps 49, engageable with thebuttons 17, at the rear of the waist band, 18, the construction being shown in detail in Fig. 6.

A similar device, shown in Fig. 9, includes apad 50, having abutton hole 51, engageable with thebutton 45, and from which extends asingle strap 52, carrying at its lower end a fixedbutton 53, in turn engageable in a reversed position, a rigid clasp 54L, sewn to theband 18, between therear buttons 17.

These clasps, as shown in Fig. 10, are provided with a plurality ofpins 55, which are inserted through the waist band and bent over, forming a secure fastening means which is hidden below thebelt loops 19, of the waist band or they may be attached by stitching.

' It will be noted thatbuttons 56, similar to thebuttons 53, are shown secured to the inner side of the waist band, 18, between the fixedbuttons 17 on the front sides of the garment, thus providing a variety of points where attachments of the front straps can be made as may be preferred or more convenient, thus obviating attaching the suspenders at any one fixed point, and preventing unduewear of the shirt by being able to shift from one button to another, distributing the wear more equally.

In operation thestraps 25 and 27 are placed over the shoulders of the wearer, on the undershirt, and theouter shirt 20, drawn over.

The. trousers or other lower garments are then positioned and the clasps applied to the buttons, the intervening shirt material being passed over the butttons so as to be held by the clasps, thereby preventing the shirt from raising, or the lower garment from dropping, the latter being held in any desired adjustment, as is also theelastic belt 40.

Thus the device can be worn with entire comfort, dispensing with the use of ordinary suspenders or braces and belts, and without being seen from the exterior of the garment.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the suspenders can be used without any changes in the trousers buttons whatever, or if preferred, theadditional buttons 56 may be supplied and theloop 54, thus presenting a three point support which is specially easy on the r wearer and of exceptional neat appearance.

Having thus described my invention, and set forth the manner of its construction and application, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of-the class described, comprising in combination, a single inelastic webbed strap reaching from the waist to a point approximately level with the shoulder, a pair of branches extending therefrom adapted to pass over the shoulders, anelastio belt,

support clips at the lower portions of said branches through which said belt freely passes, an elongated loop on said strap engaging said belt permitting relative transverse movement, and means at the extremities of said branches and strap adapted to engage with a plurality of fasteners upon the lower garments selectively.

A device of the class described, comprising in combination, a relatively wide vertical strap at the back, a pair of diverging branches at the top thereof, said branches being adapted to extend over the shoulders downwardly at the front, an elongated loop secured near the bottom of said strap, an elastic belt loosely engaged in said loop movable up and down therein, means on said bolt preventing longitudinal movement of said belt through said loop, support clips on the bottom of said branches through which said belt passes, and clasps carried at the ends of said strap and said branches.

3. A device of the class described, comprising in combination, a back strap,

branches extending therefrom over the shoulders and downward at the front, a flexible belt, connections between said strap and belt, said connections confining the movement of said belt in one direction and limiting its movement in another direction, other connections between said belt and said branches permitting lateral movement of the branches, clasps at the ends of saidv branches engageable with buttons at various points on the supported garment, and securing means removably engaged with said strap engageable with buttons at the rear of the garment.

A device of the class described, comprising in combination, a back strap, branches extending therefrom over the shoulders and downward at the front, a flexible belt, support connections between said belt, back strap and-branches, said latter connections permitting the belt to pass freely therethrough, clasps carried by said branches, and interchangeable supporting means removably engaged with the bottom of said strap said means being adapted to engage at one or more points with the supported garment.

5. A device of the class described, comprising in combination, a back strap, a pair of narrow branches extending therefrom over the shoulders and at the front, a belt, connections between said belt and said strap permitting lateral movement of the belt, other connections between said belt and said branches, permitting lateral movement of the branches, clasps at the ends of said branches, a button on said back strap, apad engageable therewith, one or more branch straps extending from said pad, and clasps carried at the ends of the last named straps.
