To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. DUNA- WAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carmel, in the county of Monterey and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Brushes, of which'the following is a specification.

This invention relates in general to toilet articles and has special reference to a combination brush.

One object of this invention is the production of a-brush wherein a reservoir is provided in which a desired shampoo liquid or the like may be carried and may be dispensed onto the bristles by the movement of a valve plate. 1

Another object of this invention is the production of a brush wherein the body is provided with a reservoir, the reservoir being provided with a removable cover for permitting access to the interior thereof when desired.

Another object of this invention is the production of a brush wherein the removable cover of the reservoir is provided with a mirror which may be held in place when the hair is being brushed, this back also being provided with a massage strip which will extend into the reservoir when the cover is in place, thus allowing the brush to pre sent a substantially even .contour upon the outer surface thereof when the entire device is assembled.

One practical form of construction and assembly of the present invention will be hereinafter described and is illustrated in the drawing, in which 1.

12 of the body 5 and 11 of theback 10. A valve plate 14 fits within a shallow pocket 15 formed in the body 5 under the lining 8 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. This valve plate 14 is provided with openings 16 which end of the valve plate terminating in alip 18 which may be grasped and moved-1n either of two directions for shifting the valve plate.

i Thecover 19 is of the same configuration as the body 5 thus providing an even outer surfacewhen the cover is in position upon the body. Thecover 19 is provided with a plurality of pe s 20' around the edge of its inner face which entersockets 21 of the body 5 and handle, thus releasably fixing the cover upon the brush body and handle.

Thiscover 19 is provided with acountersunk mirror 22 in its innersurface, whereby the person using the device may first remove the cover and then hold the glass in position to see exactly how to use the brush in its ordinary function. The'handle portion 23- of thecover 19 has amassage strip 24 fixedon its inner face. This strip may be of the usual construction of a suitable body having yieldable tips .thereon as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. I

When the cover is in position on the body and handlethereof, the lining 8 will bear upon the inner surface of the cover and thus form a liquid tight joint for the comparatively thick liquid of a shampoo qualgrip thelip 18 and shift the valve plate to bring its openings into register with the openings of the brush back, the brush body and the lining and thus the contents of the reservoir 'will pass through the openings onto the bristles. When sufficient liquid has passed onto the bristles thelip 18 is moved inward and thus the openings of the plate will be moved out of register with the remaining openings and further passing of liquid from the reservoir is cut off. The brush may then be applied and operated in the usual manner.

If so desired, the reservoir may not be filled with liquid and obviously therefore when necessary or desirable the cover may be removed by simply gripping the edges thereof and pulling the same outwardly away from the brush body and thehandle 7. The mirror therefore may have a clean surface and may be used for reflecting pur: poses of the usual nature for allowing of easy operation of the brush as desired. It will also be obvious that thecover 19 may be gripped and themassage strip 24 applied in any desired manner. v

' It will thus be seen that a very simple combination brush has been provided which when assembled will present an even aspect and the brush will be used in the usual way. \Vhen the reservoir is filled with a suitable shampoo liquid,'l1owever, the valve 8 may be moved to allow this liquid to be dispensed upon the bristles of the brush in a desired quantity. ()n the other hand, if it is not desired to use such li "uid a mirror may be employed for reflecting purposes or the strip for massaging purposes. After bination and arrangement of parts,material 7 dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the append- -ed claim.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A brush of the. class described comprising a head having a handle extending-longitudinally from one end thereof in alinement therewith, said head and handle being dished on their upper face to form a continuous reservoir of uniform depth throughout, bristles carried by the lower face of said head, valve controlled apertures leading from said reservoir to said bristles, and

a removable cover for said reservoir, said cover and the walls of said reservoir having interlocking elements to hold the cover in operative position.
