Be it known that I, STEPHEN STEPANIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cd lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
llliis invention relates to wrenches, has for its primary object to provide an i'mproved and eiiicient form of tool possessing novel features of construction which render the' same particularly useful in effecting the adjustment of .grease cups, pet cocks and other similar objects. h
Another object of the invention resides in a wrench of this character wherein is provided an integral metallic body, formed to include an elon ated handle and a socketed head portion, t e latter comprising a plu rality of tapering, separated finger elements which are formed ,internally to provide a substantially conical concavity, the walls of the latter being stepped toproduce ity of sockets of varying diameters, whereby the wrench will be capable of 'firmly grippin for rotation various sized threaded bodies, and the openings formed between the finger elements being capable of receiving the handle members of the type found upon grease cups of certain formation, or upon pet cocks or the like, whereby the latter handles may be conveniently operated and their adjustments effected through the use of my improved wrench.

This head member consists of a plurality of tapering, separatedfinger elements 4, which provide therebetween a plurality of substantially V shaped openin 5. he inner faces of theelements 4 are upwardly tapered to provide a substantially conicalcap receiving socket 6, which socket in this instance is stepped so that the socket is considerably varied at different positions throughout its length in diameter, and the faces of said finger elements forming the socket 6v are formed with serrated teeth 7,

By virtue of th's construction it isjnot necessary to taper to such extentA as to interfere with the' 'grip they afford uponthe caps 8. Since if the taper of -said socket were ,continuous as shown in copending ap lication, bearing Serial umber 204,161 27, 1917, the area of gripping relation existing between the walls of thesocket 6 and the ca 8 is comparatively small, and ofttii'nes this permits the wrench to slip when being' rotated. However, by stepping the socket, the gripping area of the latter is considerably enlarged, so that the said cap firmly clutched for uniform rotation therewith. In the event of a grease cup being provided withy a cap formed with a handle, the latter ma be rotated by inserting the wrench in .suc manner that the handle will be caught between the `finger elements 'by bein positionedin certain of theopenings 5, w ereby uponrevolving the wrench, said handle may be ectively ositions.
