Unrrnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM HASLUP, OF SIDNEY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, G. G. HASLUP, SR, AND R. B. HASLUP, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,878, dated June 11, 1872.
SPECIFICATION- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. HAsLUP, of Sidney, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sulky-Plows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sulkyplow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my plow Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of a part of the tongue showing its connection with the sulky-frame, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the same.
A represents the tongue, on the rear end of which, both on the upper and lower sides, are attached tongue-plates B B. Through the the centers of these plates are hubs a. a, which work in holes on the hound-caps (l 0,.said caps being fastened together by bolts b b passing through the top cap and screwing into the bottom cap. D is a plate to which the foot-lever E is attached. This plate is provided with lipsc' i on its under side, which project under the edges of the top cap 0, and in a recess on the top-plate B. By pressing upon either end of the foot-lever E the sulky is vibrated to the right or left, thus throwing the plow in or out from the land, and making a complete joint between the tongue and sulky, the tongue turning on the hubs or pivots a a. G Gr are the hounds, which are held to-, gether at the front ends by the caps G C. These hounds are widened as they extend back and are held together,or connected, at their rear ends by the axle H, which passes through their extreme rear ends. I I are the through which its arm passes, so that said stud can be raised or lowered at will. This is effected by means of the lever K attached to the arm and connected with the stud by a rod,
e. The wheel by this means is raised or dropped on the land to suit the depth to be plowed, the height being regulated by a pin inserted in holes upon the wheel-arm. L is a sleeve placed on the axle H between hounds G G, and provided with two arms, N N, projecting toward the rear and pivoted to the plow M. By revolving this sleeve on the axle these arms are raised or lowered at will, thus putting the plow in or out of the ground. The sleeve is turned by means of the hand-lever O, which is bolted or otherwise affixed to the sleeve. By pushing forward on this lever the plow is raised, and a trigger, f, pivoted to the lever, drops into a notch on a circular plate, P, fastened to the hound, and holds the plow while it is being turned or taken from the field. The depth to be plowed is regulated by a pin, h, and pin-holes in the circular-plate P. A small lever, 70, is pivoted at the upper end of the lever O and connected, by a rod,
m, with the trigger f, by means of which said trigger is raised and the plow is let into the ground. The front end of the plow-beam is held by a brace, R, as shown in dotted lines, which is made adjustable by means of a slothole in the bottom hound-cap O, and fastened by a set-screw, m. In place of the sleeve L, with arms N N, I may use any suitable bail to connect the plow to the axle.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 7 Letters Patent, is- I 1. The combination of the tongue A, plates B B with pivot (wand caps G G to form a joint between the tongue and the sulky, substantially as herein set forth;
2. The plate D and foot-lever E, arranged with the top-plate B and. top-cap G, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. In combination with the plow-beam, the brace R, made adjustable in the bottom-cap O, and fastened by the set-screw n, substantially as herein set forth.
- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
