jUNiTEDsTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
MARCELLUS B. CLARKE, OF AKRON, OHIO.
lVAGINAL IRRIGATOR.
Appueauon ined :une 5, 19.14. l serial No. 843,306.
To all 'whom t may concern.:
Be it known that MAncELLUs B. CLARKE, a citizen of the Unied States, residing at Akron, in the county o Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vaginal Irri-` gators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
T is invention relates to vaginal irrigators such as are used for cleansing purposes and for treatment of disease.
n object is to provide such an article which shall avoid irritation or unduly straining the tissues of the vagina and adjacent organs. This I -accomplish by making l the barrel of soft flexible material so that it Vaginal canal.
Another object is to so construct the irrigator that it may be efficient in use and cheap to manufacture,
y invention is hereinafter more fully described in connection with the drawings and the essential characteristics are. set forth in t e claim.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my irril gator, showing the barrel in normal position, in a flexed position in dot and dash Referring to the drawings: 5 designates the barrel of my irrigator, having a ball orhead 6 integral with the end thereof. This barrel and abutting an annular ange l2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
-the bulb in the usual Patented Jan. 11, ieie.
or bead 14.-
A smaller lflange neck of'lthe engages the bulb, thereby sure for the mouth of the e barrel 5 is provided with the usual bore forming a passage for the liquid. communicating with the orifices bulb may' be illedby immersing the head end of the barrel in the liquid to be used, while the bulb is compressed, then allowing drawing the liquid into it by may be then forced from the bulb and barrel by compressing manner. Irrigators have heretofore been a rigid barrel either straight or vagina.
- dangerous. I have entirely obviated this difiiculty by makingp the barrel, shield of soft flexible material preferably of rubber composition, allowing the barrel lto find its own path verv readily by bending` in any direction. In Fig. 1y the barrel is shown in upwardly as at 18, to indicate this flexibility.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim is:
a. ball-shaped head connected barrel by a neck which leaves an external annular groove. an annular series of openings extending diagonally through the barrel in a ,generalforward direction 8. And the dot and dash lines. bent and terminating in said groove, a. fiexble bell-shaped shield surroundingr the barrel Y and slidably embracing the same, an annular shoulder on the barrel between the shield and the end opposite the head, and a bulb embracing* the barrel and abutting said shoulder.
