SHINGLING-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1915.
AppIication filed October 18, 1912, Serial No. 726,145. Renewed September 30, 1915. Serial No. 53,428.
i '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, CHARLES TV. Gone, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shingling-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved bracket especially adapted for use in shingling roofs and for fastening stage hooks, holding ladders and to serve as shelves for supporting paint pots, tinners fire pots and the like, the object of the invention being to provide an improved bracket of this character which may be adjusted for use on a roof of any pitch and which when not in use may be compactly folded so as to occupy but little space, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shingling bracket constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same in set up position ready for use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same in folded position.
My improved shingling bracket comprises amain member 1 to bear on the roof, astandard member 2 hinged at its lower end to the lower end of the main member and a supportingmember 3 hinged to the main member and adapted to be adjustably connected to the standard member. The members of my improved shingling bracket are each made of suitable sheet metal and thestandard member 2 is formed at its lower end with spurs L which are adapted to be driven into the roof to support the bracket thereon and prevent the bracket from slipping, themain member 1 bearing on the inclined upper surface of the roof. The standard member is provided with a curved opening orslot 5 and is also provided near opposite sides with series of adjustingslots 6.
The supportingmember 3 has anopening 7 to receive a stage hook the bottom of a paint pot, fire pot, or the like and is also provided at its lower free end with a pair ofhooks 8 which may be engaged with any of theadjusting slots 6 in order to secure the supporting member to the standard member and at any required angle with relation to themain member 1, according to the angle of the roof on which the device is employed. This adjustable connection between the standard member and the supporting member enables the bracket to be employed on roofs of any pitch.
On the upper side of the main member at a point between the hinge connections of the standard member and supporting member is a reinforcing plate 9 the lower or outer end of which is rounded and upturned to provide acurved flange 10, which, when the bracket is in folded position, as shown in Fig. 2, passes through thecurved slot 5. When the bracket is in folded position thestandard member 2 bears directly against the upper side of the main member and the supportingmember 3 bears directly against the upper side of the standard member.
It will be understood from the foregoing and by reference to the drawing that my improved shingling bracket is extremely simple, is very strong and durable and is adapted for a variety of uses and 011 roofs of any pitch.
The bracket may be made of any suitable size and, in practice, may be supplied with as many dogs as necessary, according to the size of the bracket.
Vhile I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, the herein described sheet metal shingling bracket comprising a main member to bear directly on a roof and having its lower end bent downwardly at a slight angle, a supporting member hinged at one end to the main mem her and having downturned hooks at its outer end and a standard member having its lower end bent downwardly at a slight angle and hinged to the lower end of the main member and provided also at its lower end with securing studs bent outwardly therefrom to project from the angle between the main member and standard and enter the roof when the bracket is set up, said standard member having adjusting openings for engagement by the hooks of the supporting member, the bent lower member affording space to clear the hooks of the supporting member and adapt the device to be comhinge between the supporting member and 10 pactly folded When not in use and With the the main member. 7 main member, the standard member and In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature supporting member parallel, the hinge Which in presence of two Witnesses.
connects the supporting member to the main 7 member serving to space said members apart CHARLES GOFF' and to also reinforce the main member the Witnesses: said standard member when the bracket is WM. H. BALsIGER,
folded lying in the space formed by the said E. D. BIRD.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Gommissioner of Patents Washington, D. C. i
