ALBERT N. WRLGH'I, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
HANGER FOR USE IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIOIT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT R WRIGHT, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Hanger for Use in Concrete Construction, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object the production of a hanger for use in concrete construction, which is particularly simple in construction and capable of more or less adjustment.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views. a
Figure 1 is a sectional view of my hanger showing the same embedded in the concrete. Fig. 2 is a 'plan view of the hanger, a part being removed. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the body of my hanger.
This hanger comprises a body l'designed to be embedded in the concrete, and an engaging member or hanger-proper 2, suspended from the body. The body is preferably elongated and formed with outwardly inclined or flared sides andends 3 and 4, extending above the part of the body directly supporting the engaging member 2, for facilitating the securement of the body in the concrete, said body being open at its top for permitting the concrete to engage innerand outer sides thereof. As shown, the ends 4 are of greater height than the central portions of thesides 3, and, together with theend portions 5 of the sides, form wings having channels in which the concrete runs when poured. The body is also formed with anelongated chamber 6 in its lower portion, the chamber having an open top and aslot 7 in its bottom midway between the sides of said chamber. A supporting member, here shown as a non-circular head or nut 8, is located in said chamber, the sides of the nut engaging the sides of the chamber, and the threaded opening 9 thereof, being alined with the slot. The chamber is covered by aplate 10 which rests on a ledge 11 surrounding the top of the chamber, and prevents the concrete from entering the chamber.
12 is a connecting element projecting through theslot 7 and-preferably detachably connected to both members 2 and 8. As here shown, the engaging member 2 is formed with aneye 13 for receiving a'pipe Specification of Letters Patent.

or other part to be supported by the hanger, and with a threaded passage 14 for receivinglthe outer threaded end of the connecting element, said engaging member being adjust able lengthwise of the connecting element, toward and from the, body, and adjustable laterally relatively to the body, by reason of the ability of the nut to be moved in thechamber 6 along theslot 7.
The upper end of the connecting member is threaded and enters the threaded opening of the nut and the end face thereof engages the late 10 and acts as a set screw for holding themember 12 in its adjusted position relatively to theslot 7. It is obvious, however, that a bolt may be substituted for the nut and connecting element.
In placing the hanger in position, it is secured to the wood false work before the pouring of the concrete, by a bolt passing through the wood false work and into the nut 8, and when the wood false work is removed, the engaging member and connecting member are substituted for the bolt.
What I claim is:-
1. A hanger for use in concrete construction comprising a body designed to be embedded in the concrete, the body being formed with an elongated chamber opening through the top of the body and having side walls, the body being also formed with a slot opening through the bottom of the chamber into the same and with a ledge around the upperside of the chamber and walls rising from the ledge, a cover plate for the top of the chamber, the cover plate resting on the ledge and engaging at its edges the last-mentioned walls, a supporting member located in the chamber and adjustable along the slot and engaging the side walis of the chamber, and an engaging member suspended from the supporting member and detachably connected through the slot thereto, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A hanger for use in concrete construction comprising a body designed to be em bedded in the concrete, the body being -formed with a chamber having a slot in its bottom and a cover for the chamber, the cover bein embedded in the concrete, a. nut in the chamher having its threaded opening ailind with the slot, a supporti member extending through the slot and" into the nut ahd turning into engagement with the cover immovable when the hanger is threaded opening alined with the slot, and a supporting member extending through the slot and threading into the nut and into engagement with said cover to hold said member in its adjusted position relatively to the slot, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
4. A hanger for use in concrete construction co-n'iprising a body designed to be-em-' bedded in the concrete, the body being formed with side walls, an elongated chamber having an elongated slot in its bottom and an openupper side, a nut in the chain ber engaging the side walls thereofand having its threaded opening'alined with the slot, a plate arranged to cover the open upper side, said plate being designed to have 1 the concrete in which the body is embedded contact therewith for preventing the dislodgement'of the same and resting on sur faces on opposite sides of the upper edges of its side walls, and a supporting member extending through and adjustable lengthwise of the slot and threading into the nut and movable into engagement with the plate andhence holding the nut and supporting member in its adjusted posit-ion relatively to the slot and chamber, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. A hanger for use in concrete construction comprising an elongated body designed to be embedded in the concrete, said body being formed with outwardly inclined sides and ends, the ends being of greater height than the centralv portions of the sides and together with the end portions of the sides forming wings having channels, an engaging member and means associated with the body for supporting the engaging member, substantially as and for the purpose described. v
6. A hanger for use in concrete construction, comprising a body designed to be embedded in the concrete, said body being formed with outwardly flared sides and ends and with a chamber near itsbottom, the chamber being open at its top and having a slot in its bottom, a plate covering the top of the chamber and located near the bases of the sides and ends, a supporting member located in the chamber and adjustable along the slot, and an engaging member suspended from the supporting member and connected through the slot thereto, substantially as and for the purpose described.
7. A hanger for use in concrete construction, comprising a body designed to be embedded in the concrete, said body being formed with outwardly flared sides and ends and with a chamber near its bottom, the chamber being open at its top and having a slot in its bottom, the body being formed interiorl'y with a ledge or supporting means for a cover plate near the open top 'of the chamber, a plate covering the top of the chamber and resting on the ledge, a supporting-member located in the chamber and adjustable along the slot, and an engaging member suspended from thesupporting member and connected through the slot thereto, substantially'as and for the purpose set forth.
8. A hanger for use in concrete construction comprising an elongated body designed to be embedded in the concrete, the body being formed with outwardly and upwardly inclined sides and ends, the ends being of greater heightithan the central portions of the sides, and together with'the end portions of the sides forming wings having channels, the body being also formed With a chamber in its lower portion the chamber having an open top and a slot in its bottom, and the body also having a ledge surrounding the open top of the chamber, the ledge bemg located below the upper edges of the sides of the body, a plate covering the top of the chamber and resting on said ledge, a supporting member located in the chamber and adjustable along the slot, and an engaging member connected to the supporting member through the slot, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
