Description

D. FLEMING.
. 1912. 1,064,307. Patented June 10, 1913.
UNTTED %TATE PTENT @FFT@E DAISY FLEMING, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFOENIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM T. REMINGTON, OF SACRAIVIENTO, CALIFORNIA.
SYRINGE.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, Dasr FLEMING, a citizen of the United States residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Syringes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a syringe.
The Object of the present invention is to provide a simple and substantial syringe, so constructed that the nozzle portion may be separated for the purpose of gaining access to the interior of the nozzle when it is desired to cleanse or disinfect same.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the syringe in perspective, showing the parts assembled. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the different parts separated. Fig. 4 is a cross section of the nozzle showing a slight modification of same.
The Object of the present invention is to provide a syringe especially constructed to allow access to the interior of the nozzle when it is desired to cleanse or disinfect same. In places where water is extremely hard and for other various reasons, the interior of the tube becomes coated with a hard coating of deposit of lime, or other foreign substance, which it is impossible to thoroughly remove under ordinary conditions.
In the present construction here shown, the nozzle is made in twomain sections 2 and 3, which` when separated, entirely open the interior fiuid passage of same, as shown in Fig. 2. These two halves are united and nterlocked in position by the following means:
The main portion of the nozzle, as 3, is provided with a perforation 4, for the purpose of receiving an interloclingpin 5, secured to the removable portion '2. Themain portion 3 is also provided with a dovetail or undercut portion 6 which will prevent the removable section 2 from being lifted in a vertical line when separating the two halves. The opposite ends of thesections 2 and 3 are provided with threaded portions 7 adapted to receive acoupling 8, internally threaded as at 9, for this purpose.
Specificaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 28, 1812.
Patented June 10, 1913.
Serial No. 717,454,
The dovetail portions having been engaged and thepin 5 interloclred with the perforation 4 in themain portion 3 of the nozzle, it is only necessary to bring the end portions together and secure thecoupling 8 by screwing it over the threaded portions 7. Thecoupling 8 is provided with any suitable extension, as 10, for the purpose of receiving a rubber connection, as the hose or tube 11.
For the purpose of insuring a tight joint along the meeting edges of the twosections 2 and 3, it is possible to accomplish this by giving the section 2 a little greater conveXity than themain portion 3. This causes the meeting edges to be brought into forcible contact when locked into position and they are forced together with more or less pressure caused by the spring action of the member 2 and will thus produce a tight joint.
In Fig. 4: of the drawings I have shown a slight modification in which a tight joint between the meeting edges of theparts 2 and 3 of the nozzle is accomplished by providing V-shaped projections 12 on the portion 'Z and the grooves 13 in themain portion 3. This provides a greater contact area between the sections, thus lessening the possibility of any leakage between same. Water or other fluid passing through the central chamber 14 of the nozzle is ej-ected through suitable openings, as 15, Connecting with the central channel 14. These openings 15 may be positioned in suitable grooves or riflings 16 formed or cut in the surface of the discharging end of the nozzle.
The nozzle is neat in appearance, simple and substantial in construction, and reliable in its actions. The construction does not require that it be made of larger Sizes than usual.
The materials and finish of the several parts of the nozzle are such as experience and judgment of the manufacturer may dictate.
I wish it understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, and that I do not wish to limit myself to the specific design and construction here shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I Claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1, A syringe comprising a longitudinally divided body portion a Central fiuid pas sage in said body portion, having a plurality of disoharge openings communioating With said Central passage, means for interlocking the longitudinaliy divided body portions, said means eomprising do-vetailed interlocking portions in the discharge end of the divided body portions, and segmental portions at the receiving end adapted to be inserted into a looking ooupling.
2. A syringe eomprising a longitudinaliy divided body portion, a oentral fluid passage in said body portion, having a plnrality of disoharge openings communieating With said central passage, means for interioeking the longitudinaliy divided body portions, said means comprising dovetailed interlooking portions in the disoharge end of the divided body portions, and threaded segmental portions at the receiving end adapted to screw into acouplin 3. A syringe oomprising a longitudinally divided body portion, a Central fiuid passage in said body portion, having a plurality of discharge openings oommunioating With said Central passage, means for interlooking the longitudinally divided body portions, said means oomprising dovetailed interlooking portions in the discharge end of the divided body portions, threaded segmental portions at the receiving end adapted to screw into a oonpiing, and means for preventing side movement of the parts With relation to each other, said means comprising an interlocking pin and socket.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
DAISY FLEMING.
