Description

J. F, FISHER.
Seed-Drill Teeth. No. 101,990. Patented April 19, I870.
7467- hi/ flf i' N PETERS, PNOWUTNOGRAPMER. WASHINGTON D c To all whom it may concern fitnitml States JOHN F. FISHER, OF GREENOASTLE,PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF AND DANIEL BREEROF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
Letters Patent N 101,990, dated April 19, 187 0;' antedated April 7, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEAT-DEEDS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makingpart 0! the name.
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. FIsnnR, of Green-' castle, in the county of Franklin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wheat-Drills; and I hereby declare the following is a full description thereof.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a boot and drag-bar of a wheat-drill, with my improvement attached.
Figure 2 is the same with the .boot folded backward, as if passing a stump or stone.
Figure 3 is a top View of my improvements.
My invention consists- First, in a projection upon the earof the -hoo't,-so arranged as to form a set'like a pocket-knife with the check-1ink, and thus form a check to the check-link itself, and also to the spring bar.
Second, it consists in a. central check or set formed between the check-link and ear of the boot.
Third in a check upon the spring'bar itself, forming a set with the check-link.
Fourth, in a loose guide-pin, or pin without a bur, for holding the spring.
Fifth, in a loose washer upon the guide-pin; and
Sixth, in making the stirrup with a cap or cup to receive the top of the spring.
In making my improved boot A, I cast the same with projection B upon the ear of the boot. v
This projection extends forward to about the middle of the check-link O, and is wide enough to bear nearly or quite the whole -width of the top of said link, as shown in fig. 3.
The center of the link may also be made to have a set with the central part of the 'ear, the bearing being upon-thepoint 0, fig. 3.
Upon the spring bar D I place 'a check, E, which has a set with thelink 0, as shown in fig. 1, at e.
The guide-pin I is made separate from'the'washer H, for the convenience in casting the same, it being much more difiicult to draw the mold when the guidepin' and washer are cast together or in one piece.
- The stirrup G is cast with a cup or cap to receive the top of the spring. This is an improvement upon having a separate cap or washer above the spring, where it is sometimes liable to get out of place.
. By this construction considerable time is saved in fitting up the partsnear the spring, neither the guidepin, washers, or stirrup requiring any finishing whatever, bur, or screw.
' Having described my invention,
I claim 1. The projection Bupon the ear of the boot, or its equivalent, substantially as set forth.
2. The central set between the check-link O and the ear of the boot, substantially as described.
3. The check E, or its equivalent, on the spring bar, having a set with the check-link, substantially as specified.
4'. The loose guide-pin I, or pin-without a bur, substantially as set forth.
5. The loose washer H, made separate from the guide-pin I, substantially as set forth.
6. Stirrup G, when provided with a cap or cup to receive the top of the spring, substantially as set forth.
' JOHN F, FISHER.
