Description

Translated fromChinese
Smoking alternative supplies

The present disclosure is related to consumables used in smoking replacement systems and, in detail (but not exclusively), is related to heat not burn (HNB) consumables.

It is generally believed that smoking grass exposes smokers to potentially harmful substances. It is generally believed that a large amount of potentially harmful substances is generated by the heat caused by the combustion and/or ignition of tobacco components burned in tobacco and tobacco smoke itself.

Conventional flammable smoking articles (such as cigarettes) generally include cylindrical tobacco rods and usually also include cylindrical filters. The cylindrical tobacco rods include shredded tobacco surrounded by wrapping paper, and the filter is in shape with the wrapped tobacco rod. Aligned axially in abutting relationship. Filters generally include filter material enclosed by a plug sleeve. The wrapped tobacco rod and the filter are joined together by a wrapped tipping paper tape that encloses the entire length of the filter and the adjacent part of the wrapped tobacco rod. This conventional cigarette is used by igniting the end opposite to the filter and burning the tobacco rod. Smokers receive mainstream smoke into their mouths by smoking at the mouth end or filter end of the cigarette.

The ignition of organic materials (such as tobacco) is known to produce tar and other potentially harmful by-products. Various smoking alternative systems (or "alternative smoking systems") have been proposed to avoid smoking grass.

Such smoking replacement systems can form part of nicotine replacement therapy, which is aimed at people who wish to stop smoking and overcome their dependence on nicotine.

Smoking replacement systems include electronic systems that allow users to simulate smoking by generating smoke (also called "vapor"), which is drawn into the lungs through the mouth (inhalation) and then exhaled. Inhaled smoke generally contains nicotine and/or flavoring agents, which do not have or have less odor and health risks associated with traditional smoking.

Generally speaking, the smoking substitution system aims to provide alternatives to smoking rituals, while at the same time providing similar experiences to users and providing satisfaction to those who have experience in traditional smoking and flammable tobacco products. Some smoking replacement systems use smoking replacement products that are designed to resemble traditional cigarettes and are in the form of a cylinder with a mouthpiece at one end.

In the past few years, the popularization and use of smoking alternative systems have rapidly emerged. Although originally sold as an aid to habitual smokers who wish to quit smoking, consumers increasingly regard smoking alternative systems as a desirable lifestyle accessory.

There are many different types of smoking replacement systems, each using a different method of smoking replacement.

One method used for smoking alternative systems is the so-called "heat not burn" ("HNB") method, in which tobacco (rather than "e-liquid") is heated or warmed to release vapor. The tobacco can be tobacco leaf or reconstituted tobacco. The vapor may contain nicotine and/or flavoring agents. In the HNB method, the intention is that the tobacco is heated but not burned, that is, the tobacco does not experience ignition.

A typical HNB smoking replacement system can include equipment and consumables. The consumable may include tobacco material. The equipment and consumables can be configured to be physically coupled together. In use, the heating member of the device can be used to impart heat to the tobacco material, wherein the air flow through the tobacco material causes the moisture in the tobacco material to be released as vapor. The vapor may also be formed by a carrier in the tobacco material and additional volatile compounds released from the tobacco (this carrier may, for example, include propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin). The released vapor can be entrained in the air stream drawn through the tobacco.

As the vapor passes through the consumable (entrained in the air stream) from the inlet to the mouthpiece (outlet), the vapor cools and condenses to form smoke for inhalation by the user. Smoke will usually contain volatile compounds.

In the HNB smoking replacement system, it is believed that heating rather than burning tobacco material results in fewer or smaller amounts of the more harmful compounds that are usually produced during smoking. Thus, the HNB method can reduce the odor and/or health risks that may be caused by the combustion, ignition, and pyrolysis deterioration of tobacco.

In some cases, the smoke delivered from the mouthpiece (ie, inhaled by the user) may not be in a desirable state. Therefore, it may be necessary to modify one or more characteristics of the smoke before the smoke is inhaled by the user.

There is a need to improve the design of HNB consumables to enhance the user experience and improve the function of the HNB smoking replacement system.

This disclosure is designed in view of the above considerations.

In the broadest sense, the present disclosure is related to an aerosol-forming article (such as a smoking substitute article, such as an HNB consumable) that includes a filter with a non-circular cavity.

According to a first aspect, there is provided a filter member for an aerosol-forming product. The filter member includes a filter fiber bundle having a cavity extending longitudinally through the filter fiber bundle, and at least a portion of the cavity has a non- Circular cross section.

The presence of cavities in the filter member can be used to mix volatile compounds (such as nicotine) with the external components of the vapor/smoke passing through the filter member (such as humectants). When used in a smoking replacement system, the cavities can also result in a more responsive puff (discussed below). Compared with the case where the cross section of the cavity is circular, the non-circular cross section can make the smoke/vapor flowing through the cavity have different flow characteristics or flow patterns.

The optional features will now be listed. These features are applicable individually or in any combination with any aspect.

The filter fiber bundle may be, for example, an acetate fiber bundle or a polypropylene fiber bundle.

Alternatively, the cross-sectional area of the cross section of the cavity may vary along the length of the cavity. For example, the cavity may have a larger cross section (and may gradually decrease from the first end to the second end) at a first axial (for example, upstream) end than an opposite second axial (for example, downstream) end.

In some embodiments, the shape of the cross-section of the cavity may be substantially uniform/uniform for the entire axial length of the cavity or substantially the entire axial length (that is, the entire cavity has a non-circular cross-section ). Alternatively, the shape of the cross section of the cavity may vary along the length of the cavity. For example, the cavity may have a square cross section at the first end and a triangular cross section at the opposite second end (and may gradually change from a square to a triangle from the first end to the second end).

The twofilter members 4, 5 are separated by acardboard tube spacer 6. The twofilter members 4, 5 are formed of cellulose acetate fiber bundles and are wrapped with corresponding paper plug layers (not shown).

Bothfilter members 4, 5 have a substantially cylindrical shape. The diameter of theupstream filter member 4 matches the diameter of thesmoke forming substrate 2. The diameter of theterminal filter member 5 is slightly larger and matches the combined diameter of the aerosol-formingsubstrate 2 and thewrapping layer 3. The axial length of theupstream filter member 4 is slightly shorter than that of theterminal filter member 5, and has an axial length of 10 mm compared with the 12 mm of the terminal filter member.

8。Eachfilter member 4, 5 is a hollow cavity filter member having a hollow, longitudinally extendingcavity 7, 8. Although it cannot be directly seen from the drawing, thecavity 7 of theupstream filter member 4 has a substantially circular cross section, while thecavity 8 of theterminal filter member 5 has a non-circular cross section. Thisnon-circular cavity 8 will be described in more detail with respect to FIGS. 5A and 5B.

Thecardboard tube spacer 6 and theupstream filter member 4 are bound by thewrapping layer 3.

Theterminal filter member 5 is joined to the upstream member forming the consumable by the wrappedpaper tipping layer 9. Thetipping layer 9 surrounds theterminal filter member 5 and has an axial length of about 20 mm so that it covers a part of thecardboard tube spacer 6.

Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of a consumable 1', which is the same as the consumable shown in Figure 1, except for the following conditions: theupstream filter member 4 is a solid filter member and includes a crushable capsule 10 (crushed Ball), the crushable capsule has a shell wall and contains liquid menthol or cherry or vanilla flavoring. Thecapsule 10 is spherical and has a diameter of 3.5 mm. It is positioned in the axial center of theupstream filter member 4.

The consumable 1 is inserted into thecavity 13 of themain body 14 of thedevice 12 so that theheating rod 20 penetrates theaerosol forming substrate 2. The heating of the reconstituted tobacco in the aerosol-formingsubstrate 2 is achieved by supplying power to the heating member (for example, using a rechargeable battery (not shown)). As the tobacco is heated, the moisture and volatile compounds (for example, nicotine) in the tobacco and the humectant are released as vapor and are entrained in the air flow generated by the user's inhalation at theterminal filter member 5.

As the vapor cools in theupstream filter member 4 and thecardboard tube spacer 6, it condenses to form smoke containing volatile compounds for inhalation by the user.
