Abstract

The method for growing carbon nanotubes directly on the carbon fiber is disclosed. A plate of carbon fiber acts as a substrate. The processes of at least one nanometer thick metal thin film being deposited on at least one of the faces of the substrate and at least one nanometer thick catalytic metal thin film being deposited on the as least one nanometer thick metal thin film are disclosed in this patent. The substrate is put into a reactor, and at least one carbon containing gas is introduced into the reactor. The carbon containing gas provides the carbon source for growing carbon nanotubes. At least one carbon nanotube is directly grown on the substrate after the pyrolysis of the carbon containing gas.
