Abstract

A global positioning apparatus is installed onto a movable object, comprising a satellite positioning unit which is provided for receiving a position signal to be then converted to a formatted GPS position data, an inertia detector which is provided for detecting a moving speed of a moving object, and a power saving process unit. The satellite position unit completes satellite positioning and then the power saving process unit immediately goes into a hibernation mode. The inertia detector is provided for detecting a moving speed to calculate an accumulated displacement value obtained form the moving objects. In addition, if an accumulated displacement value is more than a predetermined value with allowance for displacement, then a satellite positioning unit controlled to switch it to the position mode and reset the satellite position. Accordingly, better power saving is achieved if the GPS apparatus does not request a position update within allowance displacement.
