Abstract

The time-assignment speech interpolation communications system is for interconnecting a transmission trunk link having twenty-four communications channels with forty-eight telephone subscribers' lines. Transmission appts. at one end of the transmission trunk link detects signals on the subscriber lines and each subscriber line on which signals are present is assigned to an available communications channel. Receiving appts. at the other end of the link assigns each communications channel carrying signals to a corresponding subscriber's line in accordance with the assignment received from the transmission appts. Control messages including assignment information are transmitted serially over the communications channels using DPSK modulation generated by a modern transmitter and received by a modem receiver.. The system is capable of use with both analog and digital telephone trunks.
