A personal portable paging system comprising: a personal portable paging unit for receiving signals transmitted at a first predetermined frequency; and, a portable personal base station (located about the paging unit) for converting the paging unit into a satellite terminal, said base station comprising receiving a signal transmitted from a satellite transmitter at a second predetermined frequency, and for re-transmitting the received signal to the paging unit at the first predetermined frequency.
