Abstract

The present invention relates to a mixture of carboxylic acids: oxaloacetate, alpha-ketoglutarate, tartaric acid and calcium and/or sodium salts of lactic acid combined with sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, for the oral treatment of patients with chronic renal failure (stages IV and V of KDOQI), hyperamonemia or human conditions that occur with a negative nitrogen balance. Said mixture is preferably administered orally but also intravenously, thus causing to decrease the serum and ammonium values, and promoting the biosynthesis of non-essential amino acids. Also, it improves the nutritional status and raises the serum albumin levels. This treatment prevents and preserves the renal function, delaying the need for renal replacement treatment (peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, renal transplantation).
