Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve mechanical strength, environmental resistance and durability by providing a thin film layer of diamond-like carbon on the surface.
CONSTITUTION: The thin film of the diamond-like carbon is formed by a thin film forming method using methane, etc., as a reactive gas under plasma discharge on the surface of a glass lens or plastic lens which is an optical refractive member. The mechanical strength, environmental resistance and durability of the lens are enhanced by such surface coating without degrading the optical characteristic such as light transmittability.
