Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent directory information out of using by recording information required for retrieval on a nearest position of a tape and allowing an user to always and easily retrieve the content of the tape. CONSTITUTION:In case of picture recording, an image signal is passed through a recording amplifier 311 and recorded on the video track V of the tape by a rotary head 313. Continuously, sub-code information is read from a sub-code buffer 309 while the rotary head 313 is passed through a space area SP, passed through the recording amplifier 311 and recorded on the sub-code area S including a directory part of the tape by the rotary head 313. In case of reproducing, the sub-code information written in the sub-code area of the tape is loaded to the sub-code buffer 309 while the rotary head 313 is passed through the space area SP in the same way as the picture recording. But, in case of normal reproduction, a directory RAM 310 is not executed access and the content of the directory RAM is preserved.
