Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an enzyme electrode which can effectively utilize an enzyme function, by a method wherein an oxidoreductase, an electron-collecting substance, and a redox compound containing polyvinylpyridine are used as an enzyme electrode. CONSTITUTION:An enzyme electrode consists of an oxidoreductase, a redox compound acting as an electron-transferring substance for the enzyme, and an electron-collecting substance, said redox compound containing a polyvinylpyridine. Methylene blue and 2,6-dichloronidophenol are used as the redox compound. Poly-2-vinylpyridine and 2-vinylpyridine-styrene copolymer are used as the polyvinylpyridine. An enzyme containing a flavine adenine dinucleotide is especially effective as the oxidoreductase in which polyvinylpyridine acts as an elecctron-transferring substance. The electron collecting substance is a condutive material rushar carbon, platinum, or tin chloride.
