Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform arc transfer smoothly and relieve abrupt load at the starting by supplying or stopping the supply of the plasma arc, water, the 1st working gas and the 2nd working gas respectively at suitable timings at the starting and the ending of cutting.
CONSTITUTION: At the starting, the 1st working gas G1 consisting of, for example, gaseous Ar, is flowed, and a pilot arc is applied between an electrode and a nozzle via a timer T1 in the gaseous G1 atmosphere. A plasma arc is generated from the electrode to the material to be cut by this pilot arc, and the plasma current I is increased like a slope up to a set value as shown by the solid line. The supply of the water ejected from around the plasma arc is started via a timer T3. Next, the 2nd working gas G2 such as gaseous Ar+H2 is supplied in synchronization with the cutting start and is joined with the gaseous G1, and the cutting is continued. At the end of the cutting, the supply of the gas G2 and the water is stopped upon stopping of the arc, and the gas G1 is stopped after timing out of a timer T2.
